just upgraded a node to Ubuntu 14.04 and installed amd-catalyst 14.4. The node seems to recognize the drivers ok in that everything within the gui interface looks good. I have "checked use GPU" in the profile and use ATI. I am not receiving any GPU work.
And now for some humor: Are we out of GPU work? for AMD cards?
The boinc manager log on the effected node says "asking for CPU / ATI"

The contact log for the computer has this line:
"ATI device (or driver) doesn't support OpenCL". I'd say there is a driver problem.

Correct. It was a driver problem. I had downloaded the latest AMD driver "ASSuming" it would be compatible with the latest version of Ubuntu. The release notes for this driver said it supports Ubuntu up to 12.04. I am running with 14.04. I then downloaded the "Beta" driver which states it supports 14.04. It too had problems. Out of desperation I uninstalled the recent Beta driver and decided to use the Ubuntu "Software Center" gui and install the distro's ATI binary x.Org driver.
This fixed the problem. In the past when installing the distros' ATI support I don't believe I had a positive outcome. I was always downloading and installing from the AMD website. Maybe this is progress and I hope that any kernel changes will result in a seamless migration.
