My i-3 used to keep my three ganged GTX-650s running at 90% while only using about 50% processor capacity. Now its sort of the other way around. The two cores can not keep the GPUs fed anymore.

This is not progress.

Call Me Headless Duffer

Across the BOINC empire, the amount of non-GPU resources required to support a GPU job varies rather dramatically from application to application.

Given your configuration, you wish to experiment to see which available type of GPU work you find most suitable, then use the Einstein preference for the location (aka venue) of the host to restrict your incoming work.

In particular, I think you may find the Perseus work requires less of your CPU than does the openCL GRP3 nvidia work.

Sounds a bit like ...

Sounds a bit like ... Windows? There was a time when the GPU windows applications were running a full core per GPU while the linux application was able to run with less cpu load. I don't know if this is still current information. Maybe you should give a chance to the penguin.

First a high five to archae

First a high five to archae all my four GPUS are running in the 90% capacity range.

Headless Duffer = My machine is dedicated to running Einstein tasks and routinely has only a power cord and ethernet link attached. Lack of monitor is "headless"
Duffer means I am an amateur.

GPUs = GTX 650 x 3 (cordless)
GTX 660 x 1 (power cord)

Eight tasks running at the same time.
Power Draw is 320 Watts at the outlet.
Production to be determined. I estimate 75-100k cobblestones per day

Processor = i3
PSU = Platinum 400 watt fanless
Mother Board = ASRock Z77 Extreme 7 slot
Case = BMF with seven fans, many disconnected

Hi Magic, The four cuda

Hi Magic,

The four cuda rigs seem running near full capacity since I changed projects. The i3 is about 50 percent. The little i3 is not up to all the project types it seems. But this is a purpose built rig for low power consumption which is one reason I chose it.

Right now it is pulling 16 watts feeding four cuda riggs [3 x gtx 650 and 1 x GTX 660] The whole rig is pulling 325W at the wall plug. I am hopeful for a personal best but won't know till the RAC has time to settle out. Last year I was only running three gtx 650s and managed to generate cobblestones at the daily rate of 10,000 using about 30 watts.

It might not work out because the GTX 660 pulls at least twice the power of the GTX 650s but does not do twice the work. Time will tell.

PS: Last year I tried to run four cordless gtx 650s but the bus would only support three. Oddly, the computer did not recognize any of the various corded gtx 650s I have on hand but DID recognize the gtx660. Go Figure.

However, at that time I only had a gold 350 Watt power supply and did not like running so hot and only used three cards. Then the 30gig SSD gagged full for some reason earlier this year so I was off line. Now have a 64 gig SSD. And a platinun 400 watt fanless. In quest for power reduction I even turned off several of seven fans that came with the giant gaming case.

I think what Magic was saying

I think what Magic was saying was try doubling up the ram and see if your pc doesn't have more output. You only have 4gb of ram in that machine and also have FOUR gpu's, that cpu must be working it's little butt off trying to keep up!
