There are no plans to change the FGRP4 application or its setup. The memory requirement is basically due to the FFT size. We could reduce this, but then would either loose resolution (sensitivity) or largely extend the computing time by ^2 (half size = quad time).

I'm certainly don't want to be the cause of lowering search resolution :)

In other words this amount is filled with the table every cell of which is used in each iteration step, is it?
If not, why not to divide the table in 2 parts and use them subsequently, thus dividing memory requirement by 2?
... GW is the app that I can run on all of these machines without any intervention and complaints from users ...
FU1 is essentially finished - ~1000 tasks still in progress and all in the field. If any of those fail or are not returned, a further resend will be created but the chances of getting one of those is about the same as your chance of winning the lottery.
FU2 has plenty of work and for several months too. If advanced LIGO is not ready when it finishes, there will be some type of further FU run, so I don't think you will have a problem getting more GW work beyond FU2.
If you would prefer to do FGRP4 work, at least on some machines, I would be happy to go through my parts boxes and archive of old machines and find some DDR1 and DDR2 sticks that I no longer need and post them to you. I don't have much DDR1. I pretty much went from SDRAM to DDR2 - P3 to Core 2 - giving the whole P4 generation a complete miss. I have no easy way of testing this stuff (apart from DDR2) so it's easier for me to send it to you and you can test it :-). I should be able to find 5 or more sticks of DDR1 and for DDR2, 6x512MB plus several 1GB sticks.
If you PM me your street address, I would be happy to mail the lot to you. It might take a little time because I need to get boxes out of storage and find what I'm looking for :-). I'll probably end up finding lots of stuff I don't even remember having :-).

I just checked the Australia Post website and a 500gm parcel air mail to the Russian Federation costs around $AUD 20.00. If I sent it sea mail it would cost half that amount but probably take months to arrive. I just found an old VGA controller box from the IBM PC/XT days and that box plus several anti-static foam sheets (pink) that come with modern motherboards weighs about 90gm. A single sided DDR2 RAM stick weighs 14gm. A double sided stick weighs 18gm. I reckon I could fit about 20 sticks in foam packing inside that box and it would still be less than 500gm. I'm more than happy to spend $20 to help you out.
Are you going to PM me the best address to send this package to? If I were sending this to any Western type country, I would just declare it as a gift of no commercial value for customs purposes. I am quite uncertain if there are any difficulties for you to receive DDR and DDR2 RAM sticks in the Russian Federation. Perhaps you'd like to send me a PM and we can discuss this further?
If I was sending 2 sticks of RAM in Australia, I would have no hesitation taping them to a suitably sized sheet of cardboard, thin enough to fit inside a standard envelope with a thin piece of motherboard foam to protect the RAM chips. It would go for the standard letter rate. Maybe there might be others in Europe for example who have a spare stick or two of old RAM that is surplus to requirements and maybe they might be prepared to donate them for a worthy cause. They would be a lot closer to you than I am. With the old hardware you are using, your continuing contribution to Einstein is most worthy. I am very happy to help you out in this way.

I'm closer being in the UK and would be equally happy to help you and the cause :-)
I can lay my hands on lots of original DDR sticks (512MB and the odd 1GB) pulled from fully working machines before being decommissioned but they will require testing on arrival. DDR2 is a little thin on the ground though.
I would be happy to assist you if I can, unfortunately the Royal Mail website is not being very helpful at the moment with regard to pricing/customs requirements but if you would like to PM me your location details I'd be happy to make enquires in the local Post Office branch...

Last night (co-incidence?) my photon mobo or cpu expired, and it was a few days away from retirement (something new in the pipeline). Apologies to my patient wing-men, but i could not get a peep off the bios, just a fan spinning silently and a sad red power light. If a moderator wants to abort any pending tasks for it, feel free, it has crunched its last cobblestone, it has gone to meets its maker....
So 3GB of DDR2 is sitting on my desk, 2x1GB is fairly new Kingston KVR800D2N6/1G. i´d prefer it went to a E@H host that´s all, as i seem to recall that was one of the reasons for buying the memory.
Royal mail are quoting a small amount about 3gbp for a small parcel so @stranger PM me if you are interested.
Thank you guys very-very much for you kindness. I'm so excited, so I can't constrain my tears. This would be great to give them a second life until there will be no any possibility to run E@H on such hardware anymore.

If the hard disk is still OK, and the replacement arrives in time, you can copy the BOINC data folder to the new host and crunch the remaining tasks there.
