I was on the cover of the International Association of Fire Chiefs magazine one time, I was loaded down with stuff and trying to operate the fire engine at the same time in the picture. It was a piece on staffing and who pays the price for minimums. It was taken after I had been on for about 5 years, but turned out to be prophetic in the end!
Oh and good morning!
Mikey,
Find that Mag. If you still have it - Scan it - put it up on here !
Be fun to see !
Good morning and coffee re-booted ! A winnerer. :-)
May I kick off a wee challenge ? World beating. Plumb the breadth and depth of life experience within this wing of the asylum. I think we could make real progress to the sum of human knowledge*. I'll kick off with a couple of entries for this project, please add as you feel.
Rules Of Coffee
- Never get between and their coffee.
- Don't diss the barista.
Cheers, Mike.

It's a typo, it should be Dr Jay Kill. He's a good mate of mine, we went through Hack n' Slash 101 ... sorry I meant basic surgical training ... together. Personally I think some of the Coroner's comments about him were so unfair.
Cheers, Mike.

The W.H.O. aka the health kindergarten of our useless U.N. preschoolers is currently vetoing trials of medications that might, in at least theory, have a shot at saving lives of those with Ebola. Because, they claim, if insufficient stocks are available to give to all then some will receive while others won't. Hence if some drug actually works then discrimination has occurred ie. haves vs have-nots ( threatening an almost identical re-run of the scenario that sunk without trace US HIV research in the 90's ). This is their sole reason as disclosed ie. any strategy must first survive filtering through their philosophical mantras emitted from positions of comfort. Alas Medicin Sans Borders have gone along with that. The WHO and MSB are currently the only two organisations with realistic chances of effecting distribution, administration and monitoring.
I'd like, if I may, mention a couple of points ( spoiler alert : real world facts from this universe to follow )
- known safety of candidate compounds ( already extensively tested for other purposes )
- ghastly mode of death.
- yes, it is sneaking out of the initial zone.
Against the sheer pleasure the UN may feel at, yet again, upholding their dear principles of WhatEverWeThoughtOfLastWeek I would offset the utter tragedy in Africa. Social Justice Twaddle just doesn't cut it in the face of bleeding to death from every orifice.
No Cheers, Mike.
( edit ) My solution? Put anti-psychotics in all the water coolers down at UN central. Failing that give tutorials teaching about the words rational, consistent, relevant and useful.
( edit ) To be exact : this is not an issue of any social policy or resolution thereof. By all means flip a coin and/or resolve such matters how you please. It matters not one wit to Ebola victims. If MSB don't roll-over on this, I'll pull my subscription. This is paradigmatic ivory tower behaviour.
( edit ) The UN position is phrased in turns of solving an 'ethical problem' in an attempt to grab some moral high ground and thus deflect further inquiry, while neatly obfuscating the logic that their ethics in turn seat upon a shifting marsh of BS.

I didn't wince at any of your grammar, and I am the kind of person who cringes at every error as I read, even if I don't say anything.

I'd like, if I may, mention a couple of points ( spoiler alert : real world facts from this universe to follow )
- current Ebola death rate of ~ 55%
- now in four figure death toll.
- short incubation periods.
- short window of clinical opportunity.
- no known current cure nor even mitigator.
- uncontainable environmental reservoirs ( bats, porcupines, primates and antelopes )
- known safety of candidate compounds ( already extensively tested for other purposes )
- ghastly mode of death.
- yes, it is sneaking out of the initial zone.
