I just started crunching some new FGRP’s with the GPU and have notice that they are set to use 1 full CPU core and almost no GPU. It’s almost the exact opposite of the BPR5’s.

BPR5’s are set to use: .2 CPU + .5 NIVIDIA (Uses mostly GPU)
FGRP’s are set to use: 1 CPU + .5 NIVIDIA (Uses mostly CPU)

So when I’m crunching one FGRP WU it is using like 5% GPU. When I switched to doing two WU’s at once it is only using 20% GPU, or less.
I’d like to use 90% GPU and little CPU like the BPR5’s.

Anyone else notice this and is there something that can be changed? I like doing 10 instances on my i7’s, 8 CPU and 2 GPU.

Maybe there’s a reason it’s set up differently for these?

Thanks

FGRP's Not Using Much GPU

The main difference is that this is the first release that processes FGRP data on the GPU so only parts of the code is ported for GPU processing, if I remember correctly it's only the FFTs that's done on the GPU at this time and everything else the app does is done on the CPU.
If the development of this app follow that of the BRP app then it will gradually start to use more and more of the GPU and less CPU for future releases.

There is. Bernd explained it in the Technical News thread which announced the new FGRP3 apps. Apart from the initial announcement, there is quite a bit of extra information in all the following posts so it's worth reading the whole thread for a more complete picture.

Cheers,
Gary.
