A plead wish list for this Einstein@Home ? - A user friendly pop up box for the non-scientist science lovers with a little arrow that you can mouse over and get a text box explaining what the heck we're seeing. I love science, I admire your research and want to help by volunteering my computer to help sort your data. However, my friends would upload this program if they understood what they are doing in non science terms. For instance, it looks soo exciting but in this box from my project, what the heck is "A","B","C", and "D"? They think this is cool, would have lent thir big fancy computers, but I didn't know what to tell them they we're looking at. Can anyone layman term this for me pretty please? Thank you!!!
Thanks for any kind soul willing to put their eyeglasses on and enlighten this soul.

Welcome to E@H ianna ! :-)
A more detailed explanation of the screensaver can be found here. The basic idea is to show on the sky map the positions directly above our detectors. Admittedly that page is a bit dated : the white one is not mentioned - that's for the Virgo detector in Italy.
FWIW : there is currently a review of the screensaver code ( I'm doing it ) so I'll add your request for a mouse-over/hover text to the list ! :-)
Cheers, Mike.

Fantastic, Mike! Thank you soo soo much! Very helpful indeed, and you're right, I missed the white Virgo detector line! It's a glorious spinning full circle now, and computer's been running like a mad woman trying to complete my first task, but it's soo exciting to think this is not a rendering of a computer animation but some real point in Cassiopeia (I think).
Big hug to you for the kind reply!

Yes, that's the trick with

Yes, that's the trick with the screensaver. It talks to BOINC and finds out where upon the sky the currently processing work unit is analysing. And then shows that ! :-)
ASIDE : If you, or anyone else, has any ideas about existing or future screensaver features then NOW is a GREAT time to mention them. For that matter even ideas for completely different screensavers I would LOVE to know about. Kindly post here. Don't worry : you won't have to write the code or understand any technical guff - that's my burden. It's the ideas I could use. ;-)
Cheers, Mike.
