Hi,

Does anyone know if the existing credit of the Team Founder is included or ignored when a new team is founded?

In particular, I'm referring to a situation where the prospective Founder has never been in any team previously and so all the existing credit is "clean" and has not been previously allocated to any other team.

Any information about exactly what happens with the Founders existing credit would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Gary.

Team Creation Question

As I understand it, credit only counts while the participant is a member of the team. This includes the founder, so his/her credits are only reflected in the team from the time of formation of the team.

In this sense the founder is no different to any other team member.

Every individual keeps their full score in their own individual stats, but the team only benefits from their contibution from the time they joined.

The total of the individual scores for a team is almost always more than the team score in aggregate - the only way it can be equal is if each member (including the founder) joined the team before their respective first WU was credited.

This is easier to implement than trying to note which past credits were 'clean' and which 'already used' for teamwork.

Similarly when you leave a team, you don't and cannot deprive them of the credit you have already contributed to that team.

Thanks very much for the reply. I basically figured as much. Since a current team member can't found a new team until he quits the current team, team membership data must be readily available per user for that decision to be made. Whatever flag stores the data may be a simple Y or N for current team membership but I imagine it could easily have four different states, such as:-

0 = not currently in a team and never been in a team previously.
1 = not currently in a team but has previously been in one.
2 = currently in a team but has never been in any other team previously.
3 = currently in a team and has been in other team(s) previously.

State 0 could be regarded as the "clean" state and a "state 0" founder could be allowed to "seed" his team with his current credit. All other states would be disallowed and would start with a clean slate.

I guess it's too much to hope that something like the above might already exist. Against my better judgement, I'm seriously thinking of forming a team as a way of thanking some people who are allowing me to supplement my own crunching with the output of their boxes which is currently being added to my name. I didn't particularly want to track my own credit if it could be included as part of the team credit.

Once again thanks for your reply. I appreciate the time you took to compose it.

Cheers,
Gary.

Well, I finally bit the bullet, created a profile and then created the team I had been thinking about for some time. Turned out to be quite a painless exercise and the stats sites show my team with me as a member and I certainly don't remember having to "join" the team after it was founded. I was automatically there as you would expect.

As discussed earlier, none of my accumulated credit was given to the team. It started from zero!! However, on the first day, the boincsynergy site has my team at #1176 out of 2353 total teams so I'm already half way up the ladder. Should be interesting to see how fast I can rise from here. I'm not going to publicise the team but I'll be interested to see if any other intrepid souls decide to join. I expect to get some support from people (either staff or customers) associated with my supporter, Uptime Games.

Cheers,
Gary.

yes that is fairly typical on any DC project. It only takes a few days - a week at most - to get more than half way up the individual ratings when you first start on an established porject, ditto when you start a new team on a project with many establshed teams.

The reason is the same in both cases: there are a huge number of individuals who download software, return a wu or two, then give up. There are a huge number of team leaders who form a team, then abandon it fairly soon after (perhaps to merge with another team, or often even to correct the spelling mistake they made on their first attempt to form a team.)

After a couple of weeks your position in the RAC charts should stabilise, assuming you get no more members. Then every time you gain or lose members it should move to the new rating over the following couple of weeks.

In theory your position based on lifetime totals should aysymptotically tend towards the same position as you get in the RAC ratings. As you say, it will be interesting to see if either theory is correct.

Yes, I was expecting a fairly rapid rise :). There are 6 days of team stats now and I'm already up to position #350 with a projected position based on RAC of around #70. It will undoubtedly take a while to get there.

It's amazing how the gradual slowing down and the increasingly longer time to get to that next "goal" starts to have one casting around for even more boxes to "borg". :). DC projects just wouldn't survive without the "incentive" scheme and of course, basic human nature :).

Cheers,
Gary.
