Hello,
I just removed and reinstalled BOINC, reattached to my projects but no WU downloaded from E@H.
I can see some errors but can't understand what's wrong. Can you help/advice?
Thanks.

P.S. My computer ID is 218326

I can see that E@H is trying to get more work, but it gives a checksum error...

The correct checksum is:
[root@einstein download]# md5sum ./33e/H1_1428.0
c4be25411866fb785ff4767b95648239 ./33e/H1_1428.0

Try finding and then deleting this file (H1_1428.0) from your system. This may force another (correct) download.

Cheers,
Bruce

Hello Bruce, I checked but

Hello Bruce,
I checked but there is not this WU in my disk.
Anyway E@H is trying to download any WU I get:

24/05/2005 14.59.37|Einstein@Home|MD5 check failed for H1_0602.5
24/05/2005 14.59.37|Einstein@Home|expected 40dd2bd0bb2c1383ee7c36b5ff85f301, got 76acefec868c2f6afa1c43143b564fd8

24/05/2005 14.59.38|Einstein@Home|Deferring communication with project for 59 seconds

I already tried to reset the project, detach and reattach but it always gives this checksum error. I have this error also in another PC.

Can you please check my id's?

From what you describe it would appear to me that your data is being modified in transit. One or two MD5 failures would be normal, but certainly not every file and on multiple PC's.

Are you behind some kind of caching proxy, or do you know of anything that could be modifying the HTTP data that you are receiving (Company firewall, HTTP port scanner etc.)?

Sure looks like a strange one. :(

[edit]
Just had another thought.
Are you using any kind of software disk compression/de-compression or software that may be modifying all the non-executable files stored to your disk?

Hi again,
I was starting to think that it could be some proxy in my company's HQ as you said and no compression/decompression soft in my disk...
The only thing different between all my pc's is that in the one I have MD5 checksum errors has Symantec Firewall installed (not the others).
It is still strange because I always had this firewall but when BOINC/E@H introduced the checksum, I could not download any WU.
I'm going to try to disable the Symantec service and then retry...I'll let you know.

Thanks

I found this error in my

I found this error in my firewall log while downloading WU:

TCP non-syn/non-ack packet on invalid connection. Packet has been dropped.
Source IP address: einstein.phys.uwm.edu(129.89.61.70).
Destination IP address: yyyyyyyyyy(xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx).
TCP Source Port: http(80).
TCP Destination Port: 1316.
TCP Message Flags: 0x00000018.

Now the question is: is there something E@H can do? In the meanwhile I'll try to find a workaround for this but since my firewall has remote controlled rules, I think I cannot do so much.
I'll eventually post here a solution...

Checking more deeply I found

Checking more deeply I found that is not my firewall (I attached my PC directly to Internet and correctly downloaded H1_0895.5) so it has to be the company proxy/gateway.
Is it possible to somehow solve this? Or do you have any idea? Do you think that using an external proxy would help? Can you advise me one?

If it's the company gateway, then there's no much you can do about it. All data between your company PC and the Net would in theory have to pass via the gateway, so an external proxy probably wouldn't make a difference.

Since you have the company's permission to run BOINC on their PC, you could speak to someone in the IT department to find out if the problem is known to them. Either they will be aware of it, being something they have actively implemented, or they may be unaware of it and you may have found a bug in their gateway software.

Of course, you do have the company's permission to run BOINC, don't you? ;-) If you don't, be very careful how you handle the situation, as running BOINC without your company's permission may have unpleasant consequences for you.

Thank you Ralic, I'll not

Thank you Ralic,
I'll not involve proxy guys for this matter ;-). For the time being, I'll just suspend E@H hoping that the new version of BOINC will solve this.
It is still strange that the first WU were downloaded when I first attached my PC to project but no further WU were downloaded because of MD5 checksum.
I also will downgrade BOINC version to check if this could be the reason.
Thanks again.
