You realize that everybody else sees an abbreviated version of your specs with no senstive info, right? There really is no need to hide your computer info. It makes it difficult for others to help you if you have a problem.
I even had a thread about that question. Not many answers though. My guess is "unfounded paranoia".

I remember reading that thread at the time and I remember thinking that the "unfounded paranoia" type suggestions being levelled at those who chose to keep their computers hidden was a rather arrogant sort of comment to be making. Particularly when you consider that it is really a personal choice that in no way impacts on the performance or wellbeing of anyone else.
I notice that there are quite a number of people who choose the hidden option and I'm one of them. My reasons for doing so have nothing to do with paranoia now, although at the time I added the very first box to the project and began crunching my first result, I did feel it would be a good idea to keep things closed until I knew more about how things worked.
I keep my computers hidden because:-
1. It's a personal matter between myself and the project and nobody elses business.
2. I've actually seen quite offensive complaints against people with visibly large "farms" as if the "farmer" was somehow playing unfairly stats-wise.
3. I'm an Australian and part of the Australian ethos is to have little respect for people who seem to be trying to "big-note" themselves.
4. Crunching for any DC project is exactly like donating to charity. Whilst some may get their kicks from the reaction of others to the size of the donation, many choose to donate discreetly.
Also, it's not true to suggest that it's difficult to get help if the computers are hidden. All the poster has to do is mention the CPUID of the box in question at the time of the call for help.
Of course, just my personal opinions and no reflection on any other person.
