GPU Problem

Any ideas for getting this worked out?

I was running about 16,000 rac with mostly BRP4. Running 2 work units gave a completion time of about 1h and 20 minutes. Recently, RAC has fallen off a cliff, down to about 14,000 now, and tasks are taking 2 hours.

GPUZ shows my gpu load moving from between 90% to 70% and sometimes down to 40%. GPU temps have also dropped accordingly.

I dropped down to 3 CPU tasks but that has not helped so far. The driver has not updated in months.

GPU Problem

what is your CPU? GPU may be idle because of weak CPU.

Phenom II x4 820, 2.8 ghz.

Phenom II x4 820, 2.8 ghz. 8gb of RAM.

A few have gone through faster in the early morning, about 1 hour and 30 minutes. GPU usage graph still looks like a saw though with below normal temps.

I had a similar GPU slow down

I had a similar GPU slow down when I updated to Boinc 7.0.64, I went back to previous version and speed went back up. I haven't investigated why.

I had a few weeks of BOINC

I had a few weeks of BOINC 7.0.64 running fine, some of my highest RAC was with the new version.

The GPU load just won't stay up.

I have sort of the same

I have sort of the same problem. I have installed a new GTX660 in a winVista x64, i& rig with 12GB ram.
The GPU is using between 20 and 60 GPU load. But this card can do better but no idea how.
Has anyone here ideas.

BOINC is 7.0.64 but have used prevous ones as well. nVidia driver is the latest. Even run no other tasks on the CPU, the GPU will not perform as it should.

Where is the setting that need to be changed?

Thanks.

Open your project preferences from your account page and set:

"GPU utilization factor of BRP apps" to 0.5

It will take effect for newly downloaded WUs and your GPU utilization should be higher. BOINC version is irrelevant.

I just installed a GTX660 and

I just installed a GTX660 and it doesn't seem to have any better performance than my secondary GTX460 GPU. Any advise on why I'm not seeing the GTX660 kick the GTX460's butt?

Slight highjack of this

Slight highjack of this thread but hey what the heck + you haven't provided much information in your post on the change in your config.

There seems to be 5 models of the 460 card, ranging 750-1045 GFlops/s, 192|256 bit bus, 86-108 GB/s bandwidth, PCIe2. The GTX 660 shows 1880-2460 GFlops/s, 192 bit bus & 134-144 GB/s bandwidth on PCIe3. Your info shows you using a dual 660 config. Viewing your task list I see at E@H you are doing BRP4/5 only but you are also processing in other projects as well, presumably on cpu. Don't know squat about your AMD host but it's benchmarks show somewhat challenged performance levels.

I have a couple hosts with similar cpu performance and they require 2 free cores to feed the GPU. If I don't provide 2 free cores, the GPU times increase by 20%. With you having 2 GPUs to feed the free core requirement may even be higher - you will have to experiment to find out. Also the 660 is a PCIe3 card so do make sure both cards are in PCIe3 slots. On the basis of GFlops the 660 should provide 2x the performance, but the bus bandwidth is only 50% higher, providing your are in PCIe3 - with PCIe2 it will be less.

Realistically what are your expectations, 460 vs 660?

If I may jump in. His 1090T is plenty fast.

I'd try running with both 2 and 3 free cores to see if there's any advantage to leaving 3 free.

There are no PCIe3 slots on AMD and PCIe3 is a non-issue. What might be happening: looks like the 660 is in Slot 1 and the 460 in slot 0. If slot 0 is x16 and slot 1 is x4 (as on 970 MBs) then the 660 will be slowed considerably. In such a case the faster card should be in slot 0. What MB do you have?

Just taking a look at his

Just taking a look at his tasks and it seems like the time slows down on the BRP4's when the host is also running the new Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Perseus Arm Survey) at the same time.

And runs approx. 1,200 seconds faster just running BRP4's
