Hi all, I'd like to see the project home page a little more interactive. For exemple, the news thread can easily go one or two month old without news or messages.
I dont want that this comment sound like a criticism for the project admins, but more like a constructive idea. I know that project admins have probably many other more important and useful things to do. I really like the einstein@home project (maybe too much...), I can check the home page once or twice a day to see what's new, but most of the time, there no news. But again, this is just my opinion.
Greetings,
Raph

What would you be interested to see changed on the front page "once or twice a day"?
Standard news is communicated to teh BOINC Clients via the "notices" mechanism and usually generating a popup window, so we use it with caution.
More frequent and less important updates happen in the Technical News forum, and even more so on Twitter.

Thanks Bernd for the reply
Just to clarify, I didn't meant that I expect news twice a day, but still maybe a little more than once per month :)
Hum... I didn't thought of that. You're right!
Thanks for the info, I would certainly take a look more often in the forum section!
Sincerely yours,
Raph
How about a link for relevant
)
How about a link for relevant science stories, which are posted in the forum? Then it wouldn't be much work for admins to update the link as and when people post interesting/relevant stuff, and might help draw casual visitors into becoming part of the e@h community.
For example, how about these recent posts from the 'Science' and 'Cafe Einstein' boards:-
Asteroid 2012 DA14 comes close to Earth
Higgs Boson Particle May Spell Doom For the Universe
Ultrafast Stars Discovered Racing Through Milky Way
Meteorite flew over Urals, Russia
Help name Pluto's new moons
There is an experimental

There is an experimental version of the front page here that features the most recent technical news item.
We could possibly add another Forum ("Featured posts" or sth.). The idea is that it would be locked to ordinary contributors, but threads could be moved there by forum moderators when found appropriate. The latest topic could be shown on the front page in a similar way.

That looks good. Is it possible to show the date too? As I understand Raph's idea is to make the front page appear to be updated more often, without making too much extra work for admins.
I like the idea of the 'Featured post' ('featured thread'?) Maybe it could be slotted in next to (or made part of) the "User of the day" box, so it is "above the fold". That is to say, visitors to the site see immediately a link to something updated recently.
Another website I'm on does something like this; they call it "Post of the day", then say beside it "Not necessarily updated daily - or even weekly". :)
What do others think?
I like Neil's idea :)

I discussed this internally with a few people. They all liked the idea.
We have been working on a new (Drupal-based) website actually for quite a couple of months now and we expect to re-launch the Einstein@Home web site in only a few months. It was decided that it doesn't make much sense to implement this in the old web code anymore, but incorporate this idea into the new code that we are currently developing.
