I have an OptiPlex 745 running Einstein on dual CPU's. Just installed a GT630, 96 Cuda cores, 1GB memory. Installed 310.90 driver, rebooted, and am running two CPU tasks as before, downloaded 12 new tasks, running 1, and the second is hung with "Scheduler wait, Not enough CPU/GPU memory". Of course, for one extra task, the GT630 would hardly be worth it... :) Also, now SETI wont send me new tasks for some reason even though I thought I had an equal split.
All help optimizing my settings to properly utilize the GPU gratefully accepted!

Just to make sure if you have on board VGA ya might need to turn it off in bios. If already done you may have to go back to an earlier driver...

Now if you note there is a difference here is your part of the log:
you have device version OpenCL 1.1 Cuda which I don't I am still researching don't give up we will get this some way... as far as old logs you have to open the dir. it should be something like this :
C:\ProgramData\BOINC in windows 7 and it may be hidden and you might "if not already" have to show hidden files/folders. It should be in there somewhere not for sure as to where yet. Check your preferences on both sites and client. To run both of my cards I had to make a cc_config and put it in the dir. the text of that file is:

Also had to use dummy plug for the GT 9400 but both works. Let me know when you have checked the preferences and what you have found/not found.. Will post more when I find something

If I know and understand right the only card that can run 2 on 1 card is the 690 as it is like a duo core but I could be wrong. I am only running 1 unit per card have not seen a way to run 2at the same time though I have heard it is possible but I think only for the 690 card. Will look more into this as I can. Bare with me as I am on and off alot. lol maybe someone else who has viewed this but has not answered might know or can link to another forum where it is talked about...

Here are some points for you to consider:-
* If you have changed the GPU utilisation factor in your project prefs, to run multiple GPU tasks simultaneously and if you manage to free up enough GPU memory for both tasks to run, don't be surprised to see the run time to essentially double. In other words, you may see very little, if any, performance gain by running 2x.
* If you do decide to run 2x, you will most likely benefit a little by freeing up a CPU core to better support the feeding of the GPU. You would do this by changing your computing prefs to use only 50% of the processors. Of course, the downside is that all BOINC projects on that host would be able to use only 1 CPU for CPU tasks.
* Your motherboard is almost certainly PCIe version 1. You would see a significant performance improvement if the card were in a PCIe version 2 slot.
So, unfortunately, the upshot of all this is that, without changing hardware, you are probably about your best performance with 2 CPU tasks and 1 GPU tasks. Look on the bright side - at least the GPU task is faster than a CPU task and gives you 500 credits instead of 70 :-).

Gary, you are correct, the slot is PCI-e 1.1. I couldn't believe it was that old, but it is.
I'd get a bigger GPU, but only have a single slot width and 75W max. Time for new hardware...
I had erroneously thought that upon reboot everything would update. I see now that was wrong. The stock apps are now giving me CUDA versions, and SETI has started sending cuda apps also, running in 35 minutes instead of 95, so that's some progress.
I do understand the CPU issue with not having one free. It's all running, not sure what the true impact is, but will stay this way unless I hear advice from you guys to the contrary.
Questions...
Given the slot, PCI 1.1 and 75w power limitations, I had a choice of 1GB DDR3 or 512MB DDR5. I chose DDR3 to get extra mem but am currently using under 400MB anyway. I am uncertain of exactly the impact having faster DDR5 onboard if I can't feed the card. Is it worth returning this and getting the DDR5?
Or, is it also possible that if I set for .5 in the count, will my memory double. Is it even worth it to do that?
I see samples of cc_config and app_info, but I don't think I need them at this point... Unless I'm missing something?

I have no personal experience but I'm sure I've read somewhere that you could expect better performance from GDDR5. I don't think that 1GB RAM and running 2X will do anything except pretty much double the time it takes to run a task 1x. I think you may well get best performance from the GDDR5 card running tasks singly. Ultimately, the only way to find out for sure is to give it a go and actually measure it :-).
You will obviously use more memory if you run 2x. You should be able to run 2x on the 1GB card just fine but I doubt you could on the 512MB card. In the end I don't think you will gain anything from 2x but you wont know for sure until you try. If you are planning to change to the GDDR5 card, give the current one a run at 2x and take some stats to help you decide before returning it.
You don't need either unless you have some special BOINC client configuration needs - which I don't think you have. In that case you would only need cc_config.xml.

Ok I know this... lol it's hardware and easy for me... Not sure if you have read my signature but I am running a 650Ti which is GDDR5 and I am running a 9400 GT geforce. Right now I have it set running both cards at .5 the 650Ti is 2GB and the 9400 GT is only 512mb.
Running the 9400 GT with 2 units at a time vs the 650Ti card 9400 uses almost all of it's ability a good 90% + and gets super hot "1 really small fan on card" it was maxing at 101C to 103C and the card max is 105C. I put a desktop "house" fan on the case until I get a better case. Now there be some difference in speed of ddr3 and ddr5 BUT it really depends on the card.
Heres what you need to do:
1. go to forums Cruncher's Corner and Getting Started read over posts about different cards. "can't link ya this time or I will have to post 100's of links"
2. Compare the cards you are looking at to the 1's in the forums.
3. IF you want post new thread in Cruncher's Corner and ask for help with the 2 cards you are thinking about like "Help Which GPU card should I get" and then wait and see what results you get from the users here. Do note we have alot of users with alot of different exp. , back grounds, and most of all different card setups which is great.
4. Compare the results and decide which will be better fit for you and go with that card.
Now with that said be careful the more memory does not mean it will be better just like the faster speed does not mean it will be better. It all depends on how you plan on using it.
No matter what card you go with try to make sure of heat issues that could come up. You don't want to run the card at it's or around it's max temp like my lily 9400. It now runs around 60C during the day and over night when it gets colder it drops somewhere less than 50C. My 650Ti has 2 BIG fans and maxes out around 35C.
Also do note there is speed difference between cards. MSI Geforce 650Ti runs a bit different than a Gigabyte geforce 650Ti some times and offten there is different speeds and drivers have been a nightmare since the late 200 series. Some can run the newer drivers while others have to run older drivers.
example my 650Ti would error, freeze and reboot computer with driver 310.70 and other 310.xx drivers but works great with the 310.90 driver but I have seen others able to run the 310.70 driver with out problems and the newer 310.90 causes them problems. Thus the reason I added the note above and sadly Nvidia forums are overfull with this and they don't understand it as of yet. I think it's because like I said MSI vs Gigabyte but all carry Nvidia name.

You may wish to save money and just upgrade motherboard and power supply and so forth. I do build computers "this great desktop I have now only cost about $800" but you don't have to spend that much or do it all in 1 go. It can be piece by piece.

Thanks Gary! I agree with all you've said and will spend some time this weekend running a few combinations to see what things look like. Card temp is 66 with a max around 98, so not too bad. I'm not fully utilizing the GPU, and will try to improve that this weekend.
Bottom line is I need to break down and buy/build a new setup now that I'm getting into this on a more intense scale. I used to build all my own, but haven't done that for quite a while now. Might be fun to get back into it. If I do, I'll connect with you for sure to get expert advice!
I doubt my wife understands the need, but I'll explore that avenue... :)
