RE: ...S6Bucket Follow-up

...S6Bucket Follow-up #2" is planned to be launched later this week...

I tried to catch some of these 963,952 S6BucketFU2UB "Tasks to send", wondering how they will run compared to the actual running S6Bucket Follow-up #1 tasks, but I didn't get any. Is there something I have oversean or misunderstud ?

Sorry, forget my question, at the moment I got two new tasks S6Bucket Follow-up #2 :-)

The expectation is that an

The expectation is that an "average" S6BucketFU2UB task should not take longer than an a average S6BucketFU1UB task on the same hardware. The runtime of tasks can vary by a factor of 2, which should be reflected in the granted credit.

In my Task list I can see now

In my Task list I can see now ONE h1_0086.60_S6GC1__S6BucketFU2UBb_30027737_0 which is running.

Another one has been finished (h1_0086.60_S6GC1__S6BucketFU2UBb_30027736_1, Run Time 62,750.54 sec, Claimed Credit 405.44).

A S6BucketFU1 normally ends up with about 35,000 sec (rough average).

But when I go to "Your Results" the list for S6Bucket Follow-up #2 shows some 25 more tasks In Progress which are NOT visible in the task list.

What could the problem be ?

Presumably, one of these refers to the website and the other refers to the tasks tab in BOINC Manager, neither of which can be seen by any volunteer other than yourself, since your computers are hidden.

If the extra tasks are on the website (as it would seem from your description), they may have been "lost in transit" somehow. If they have been "lost" the scheduler will resend them (12 at a time) the next time your host makes contact. You can force a contact by clicking 'update' in BOINC Manager.

Cheers,
Gary.

RE: - Gamma-Ray search: Due

- Gamma-Ray search: Due to an error in pre-processing too few workunits have been produced for the last 50 or so "file sets" of FGRP4. While this has been corrected for the "file sets" that haven't been touched until about a week ago, we need to re-do a couple of sets afterwards. At current share of ~50% CPU computing power this would take another ~2 months of FGRP4 beyond what's currently shown at the server status page. However taking into account the planned lowering of the FGRP share in favor of GW search, I think FGRP4 will continue at least for another half year.

FGRP4 data sets ("LATeah1050E" - "LATeah1098E") have been added to cover what we accidentally missed in LATeah0050-98E. Progress counter now shows about a year remaining time of FGRP4, at least at current processing rate (where S6BucketFU2UB takes 90% CPU power).

That is great. While FGRP4 is

That is great. While FGRP4 is somewhat continuous search that can be rerun, rechecked and even prolonged for infinite time trying different parameter space patterns on existing and newcoming data, GW search being the main aim of the project have to have exactly limited stages bringing defined results on each stage. That is the second reason why I'm right focusing on finishing FU#1 asap and then working on FU#2 for as fast as I can. And let FGRP4 run smoothly in background using 5-10% resource share.

After the current "S6Bucket

After the current "S6Bucket Follow-Up #2" search there will probably be no search for Gravitational Waves on Einstein@Home for a few months. Given the current sensitivity estimates it makes more sense to wait for new data from the advanced detectors than to waste man- and computing power on another search on "S6" data.

Unless we find something urgent that can be set up and ran fast and easily in between, that is.

After S6BucketFU2 has ended and until we have a new GW search set up, all CPU power will be spent on Gamma-Ray Pulsar search.

Hallo BM!
Many thanks for the information!
And very nice to hear, that aLIGO will give usefull data so soon. Probably starting first measuring campain at 100th anniversary of ART end of November?

Kind regards and happy crunching

Hopefully earlier so that beginning of next year, we will have data of 3 months of running in science mode (with some unavoidable gaps in between).

But we might have the launch of LISA Pathfinder, scheduled for Nov 2015, to celebrate 100 yrs of GR.

Cheers
