RE: RE: Two PIs would

Two PIs would fit without problem by stacking one Pi on top of the other using nylon standoffs. There is insufficient horizontal space to accommodate a Pi on the bottom of the plate if I understood you correctly. With two PIs stacked there would not be sufficient space remaining for attaching a motor/servo hat.

I was thinking about mounting the Pis not stacked but opposite to each other, using two plates and therefore two "cable floors". But yes, no hats will fit in then. I was thinking about number crunching only.

Hmm. Understood. The Pi2 should arrive later this week. Once I get it in the tube and see how things layout I will have a better understanding of what mods to make.

Roughly a year later, i have a Raspberry Pi. The newish model 2 B has 1 GB RAM and 4 cores at about 800 MHz. I'm actually running Einstein on it. I haven't overclocked it as yet. It does push a 1080p monitor, though i've not yet played a DVD (it would be remote mounted) or streamed anything. Soon. If that works (as expected), then it would be excellent as a media center. Since these things are _so_ cheap, i'd get two.

While using the DSP for Einstein would be cool, it'd also be hot. I might even want to add a fan to it. I've got a tablet with what must be the same ARM processor. Can't add a fan to it. Haven't, as yet, run BOINC on it.

I think you will like it, I use one of my older Raspberry PI "1" B (single core!) as a Kodi media center, works great.

Having an eye on the temperature cannot hurt. The Pi2 has the same form factor as the PiB+ , so mechanically a Pi2 will fit into (almost) any of the older cases designed for the Pi B+, but the ventilation might not be good enough for the Pi2. Adding heatsinks and drilling a few holes in some old PI B+ cases did the trick for some of my crunchers.

The BBC are reporting a new model of the Raspberry Pi:

Raspberry Pi 3 adds wi-fi and Bluetooth

There seem to be plenty (~20,000) available for immediate sale through trade channels:

Nooooooooooooo. I just bought a Pi2 and the onboard wireless would have been a big boost. Anyway thanks for the info.

Going forward I would not print the cylinder part. It is a 6 hour print and if you have a power failure you get to reset the clock and start again.

Yikes. Yesterday I took the modified cylinder to a 3D printing business not far from where I live. He looked at the CAD file, wrote down some numbers: time to print 8 hours, cost $200. Oh well back to the drawing boards.

Allied Electronics in the

Allied Electronics in the states has them for $35. You can see it here.
Just be sure to get the correct power supply. The Pi3 requires a "stronger" brick than does the Pi2. Needs a Micro USB socket 5V1,2.5A

I'm a bit surprised it still comes without a heat sink (e.g. compare teh Odroid C2 which claims max 5V , 2A power requirements and comes with a giant heat sink).

This one should be able to crunch one of the BRP4 tasks in roughly 30k sec, and (theoretically) a new GW task in under one week. I immediately ordered two, just in case, but since I'm more than busy right now with other things I'm not sure when I will find the time to test drive the Pi3.

Anyway, congrats to the Raspberry Pi foundation for selling 8 million Pis.

I ordered one also. Should

I ordered one also. Should be here the 3rd or 4th.

I will be putting it inside the PiTunnel and monitor temps. Should they get above an arbitray value I will light a led and send email. When the temp falls below this value the led will extinguish.

Will let you know. I just put one Pi2 online crunching the "NEON Betas" (OS is Ubuntu Mate for Pi). 4 have completed. waiting on wingmen.

Yes. Congrats. The build in WIFI/Bluetooth on the PI3 is an outstanding modification.

ASIDE: Made mods to the PiTunnel but have been unable to get a successful print on the cylinder which is where most mods were made. Outsourcing is prohibitive: $200. I am in the middle of trying to salvage this printer by replacing extruder components. When it prints it does outstanding work but .... Anyway I can use the original print since the Pi3 has all the built in networking and will only require a power cord. I remain optimistic.

Darn, looks like the Pi3s are at least 3 weeks away from delivery - best case. I brought another Pi2 online in the tunnel to get some idea of how "cool" it runs.
