..then that means that download is max 10 kilobytes/sec and uploads 100 kilobytes/sec. He's doing that himself.

Good catch Jord, as always !! I had completely overlooked that part of the message. I'm glad this is resolved now.

Cheers

Funny how this person threatens to turn his back on this project at every whim he comes across.

Personal downloads (all BRP4s)
17/07/2012 05:56:22 | Einstein@Home | [file_xfer] Throughput 1430929 bytes/sec
17/07/2012 05:56:22 | Einstein@Home | [file_xfer] Throughput 1494526 bytes/sec
17/07/2012 05:56:22 | Einstein@Home | [file_xfer] Throughput 1546062 bytes/sec
17/07/2012 05:56:22 | Einstein@Home | [file_xfer] Throughput 1528493 bytes/sec

That's on a 120Mbit download (max 15MB/sec).

Now, of course, if the user sets his local advanced or online preferences to do

Quote:
Tue 17 Jul 2012 11:22:31 AM CEST / max download rate: 10240 bytes/sec
Tue 17 Jul 2012 11:22:31 AM CEST / max upload rate: 102400 bytes/sec

..then that means that download is max 10 kilobytes/sec and uploads 100 kilobytes/sec. He's doing that himself.

Also not sure if he wants the downloads to be slower than that. Considering the comment of "Turn the download down again" he wants downloads to be slower, or else he'll be gone here. I'm preparing something to wave with.

Edit: Or wait, perhaps it's the thing where the online preferences seem to be filled in with a default 1024 KB/sec for both upload and download limit.

What is conflicting to my message over there?

There's nothing so difficult to follow than someone who quotes a whole big post, without editing it to which portion of the post that he means to comment on and then pointing out another big post, without specifying which part of that post he is talking about.

It's like pushing a newspaper under my nose and complaining that your name is spelled wrong, without telling me which page this might be on and what your name is... Difficult to say the least.

* You need an administrator

  • * You need an administrator account to install BOINC.

* You do not need an administrator account to control BOINC; although up to 7.0.28 there was a bug in the installer that would stop other user accounts already on the computer from being added to the BOINC control group and therefore make it difficult for those users to control BOINC. This is however fixed with BOINC 7.0.28's installer and any next one.

* To run BOINC as any user, you will need to check the "Allow all users on this computer to control BOINC" option in the BOINC installer.

* It's very well possible that you have to run BOINC Manager by hand on all the user accounts, then go Advanced view->Tools->Options and check "Run Manager at login?"->OK, for this to work automatically at Windows logon.

* You cannot install BOINC as a service, aka the protected application execution option, AND make use of any GPU in the system to do calculations. You can then only use the GPU as a graphics card. This is not something that BOINC needs to fix, as it's a Microsoft Windows security measure. They thought it useful to separate services and drivers. Which is why BOINC, when running as a service, is not able to detect the GPU as it is not allowed to read the drivers.

OK, I will try it as administrator. I hope it will work that way.
Can I disable the GPU when I want to play games?

[edit]I will have to uninstall BOINC, but the last WU's I will finish. I aborted some WU's that wouldn't in time get ready.

Yes.
Either you just suspend BOINC, but then you have to remember to resume it after playing. Or you use the option in a cc_config.xml file.

Then the setup would be:

Speed.exe
Crysis.exe
FarCry2.exe

This will suspend BOINC whenever a Need For Speed game, Crysis, or Far Cry 2 game is started and resume BOINC when they exit the memory.

You can add steam.exe as the

You can add steam.exe as the exclusive application, however exiting a game under Steam will leave Steam running; for as long as Steam then runs BOINC will be suspended.

So it's better to find out the actual game's executable name and put that as exclusive application, as then when you exit the game, BOINC will continue --even as Steam continues to run.
