I think it may just be the symptom of more communication demand from the users than available server capacity.
One sees this message frequently over at SETI during weekly outage recovery, and plenty of other times as well.
With LineVeto temporarily withdrawn, and the remaining GW work (if any) highly fragmented, less of the work currently available has a low ratio of communication requirement to host resource usage than has been customary.

Here, it seems like it's more likely to happen when requesting new work. If I just report completed workunits, it normally works okay.

It has been several hours

It has been several hours since successful update. I clicked "no new tasks" and it did go through with reporting 3 completed tasks. When I clicked "allow new tasks" it tried again and failed.
I guess if others are having the same problem I'll just wait and see what happens. Still have a day and half of work to process.
