Einstein@Home volunteers discover a new radio pulsar in Arecibo data!

Einstein@Home volunteers have discovered another new radio pulsar in Arecibo PALFA data! Congratulations to:

* Jeroen Moetwil, Flagstaff, Arizona, USA
Further details about this and our other newly-discovered pulsars can be found on this web page, and will be published in due course.

It's amazing isn't it !! :-) :-)

E@H must be up around 1% of all known pulsars by now, and the DM is quite high at 600+ ..... so good catch ! :-)

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

It's actually the 7th Arecibo pulsar in 2012. But we also found 3 PMPS pulsars in 2012. So it's the 10th Einstein@Home pulsar in 2012: we're averaging more than one-per-week.

Indeed Einstein@Home has now found more than 1% of the world's known pulsars!

Cheers,
Bruce

To attract the one or other

To attract the one or other additional cruncher, hey, and to keep me hooked :o) would it be thinkable to have the names or the initials of the discoverer(s) or their home town or their E@H forum name or whatever somehow (partially) associated with a (second but official?) name of the pulsar? I could well imagine that this works off nicely since it catches us humans similarly to how those BOINC statistics do - we are told to do good and others see it. With a naming on top, that reward even stays beyond the project's duration. After all, we all love lotteries, and this one you can even influence by upgrading your computer.

The (Radio) pulsar naming is

The (Radio) pulsar naming is standardized, all pulsar catalogs depend on this.

But when you find a radio pulsar on E@H you get:
- a mentioning on the E@H discovery page
- a nice printed, framed certificate, signed by Bruce Allen
- a mentioning in the scientific paper publishing the pulsar discovery (if you agree to publish your real name). By that your name will always be linked to the pulsar in all scientific databases that list the paper.

Does that help?
