can I delete a BOINC account?

not sure if this is the right forum to post this in, but it wasn't intuitively obvious, so i'll start here. mods, feel free to tow if i posted in the wrong place.
like the title says, i'd like to know if i can delete a BOINC account. i currently have 2 accounts and only need 1. i searched and found nothing in these forums. i also searched the BOINC FAQ and found the following:

No. Merging accounts under any of the BOINC projects is not possible.
Your email is the unique identifier.
If you have more than one crunching account, choose between them with which one you want to continue and disable the rest (fill in garbage email addresses).
...but i'm not sure it answers my question. do i really have to enter a bogus email in order to disable a particular account? or can it literally be deleted? i see no option to do so under my account here at the E@H website.

You should've continued scrolling down in the BOINC FAQs. There's a new section called Frequently Requested Items which may have gotten rejected, which amongst other things has Why can't I delete my account?
So blame me. :)
And in the mean time, yeah, fill in a bogus email address and weird name on the account. Or you could politely request the admins here. You never know what flowers do. :)

As of now, BOINC accounts can't be deleted.
It had been introduced recently at SETI@home but meanwhile is disabled again for security reasons. See also this thread over there.

There were many thoughtful ideas over there too, I like Jord's idea about requiring an Admin but am thinking an email might be nice too. I do not know how many layers are appropriate but more than one seems to me to be. I do like the direction things are going though, this has LONG been a question on the forums.

The problem of using an Admin is that Admin hasn't got a clue who we are. So for all intends and purposes, I could email Admin and ask him to delete account 4158, named "mikey", as that's really mine and I want to get rid of it...
How would Admin know it isn't my account? Or that I am who I say I am? Or that I am flesh and blood?

I agree with you and it will be a slippery slope in the beginning. But maybe if the account wasn't really 'deleted' but just moved to another directory so that if someone were to do what you said above the account could be restored for the 'real' person.
As far as emailing I think it should be a several email 'conversation' as to why the account should be deleted and not just repopulated with junk info and in that 'conversation' maybe an idea if the person is real or not would come out. I am not sure if it would work though, it would take time and most Admins do not have enough of that now!
In short I just don't know how it would work, I just went over 200 million in my total Boinc Cobblestones and would hate to lose that from someone being silly with my account!

Yep, that's the problem. One person (a day) would be doable for Admin during his lunch, but if hundreds of people were to start doing this, daily, I'd think any Admin here would quickly take a leave-of-absence. Not what we want.
But I'm sure that eventually we'll figure out something, that doesn't require you to snail-mail Admin a photo and birth-certificate of yourself. :-)
