Topic 195623

Posting in getting started but I really started ages ago. I haven't received any work from Einstein in absolutely ages and am wondering why.

Is it because my settings changed to NOT use the GPU?

I stopped that and restricted CPU use too because it was running too hot some of the time and slowing my other work down, despite having a lot of resources on this machine.

Check that your preferences allow the use of at least one of [CPU::GPU] on this project, and - simple mistake, but worth checking - that you have not got the project set to 'No New Tasks'.

100 - perhaps make it 200?

My preferences allow use of 8 CPU's (4 using HT = 8) and I have it set up to fetch new tasks.

I edited the post to 100 and then altered it to 200.

All my other projects fetch normally, except perhaps LHC which rarely has work anyway.

Do you have set

Use CPU no
Enforced by version 6.10+
Use NVIDIA GPU no
Enforced by version 6.10+

? Perhaps you should post the first 20 to 30 lines of your Messages tab after a restart of BOINC (reboot).

Is there a global_prefs_override.xml file in your BOINC data directory?

OK, after having set it to

OK, after having set it to resource share 200 AND telling it use the GPU it is now in the process of downloading a huge stack of WU's. Not sure if one or the other were the factor, or both of course. So Einstein, all is forgiven.

I didn't really want to use the GPU but one can't always have things the way one wants I suppose.

Yes I have a global preferences XML but it isn't in use at the moment and I will probably be changing it anyway.

I was asking for global_prefs_override.xml ;-) but since your problem seems to be solved, there's no need to post it.

You already have set your preferences to not use the GPU when the user is active; that should help against slowing down your other work. You could also restrict BOINC to use not all of your GPUs (for all projects) by setting up a cc_config.xml file with one or more N lines in the section.

Ah, sorry, I don't have that XML file.

Thanks for the tip and advice on GPU.
