Especially when 64-bit Windows is official soon:
I personally want to have the Einstein@home source available (just as with seti@home): this would simultaneously solve 64-bit client creation & allow for optimized *nix clients.
I would also like to see 64-bit Linux and Windows binaries optimized for AMD64. Windows XP x64 is now official available for about 5 days and Linux has been out for more then a year now. It is about time E@H uses all the power of AMD64 architecture.
do you need to have Windows x64 to optimize 64-bit on an AMD64?
You can code on 32-bit Windows and then crosscompile for AMD64. But it is easier to test your code of you have the right hardware and the right OS.

Yes it is needed. Windows XP x64 is shipping now and the beta is still good for several months. In addition, the 64-bit Linux kernels have been available for some time.
