A (long awaited) SSE App for Windows can be found on the Power User's Apps page.

It will badly crash on non-SSE machines.

With the larger variety of Apps it had gotten harder to write an app_info.xml that satisfies everyone's needs. The one in this package should allow smooth migration for tasks assigned to App versions 4.15, 4.25 and 4.26. You may want to take a look into the file before installing the App (i.e. restarting the client).

This App was built using VS2003 to avoid the serious performance-hitting bug of VS2005 ("store forwarding stall"). Unfortunately the Windows runtime debugger doesn't work there, so in case of computation errors there are fewer chances to find out what went wrong.

Only run this if you're sure of what you're doing

The App will probably have some CPU vendor detection linked into it (as the 4.26 has), but my guess is that the linear sin/cos code that we're using now isn't affected by this noticeably, so there should be no "penalty" for AMD users. Please try to prove me wrong!

Happy crunching!

Next time I´m waiting a few minutes. ;)

Just unziped the file to BOINC folder and it worked without problems also at running WUs under Vista 64bit.

Well, actually you were right. However, an indication that I'm still working on publishing a new app is that the "thread" link on the page still points to the "dummy thread".

That's good news, thank you!

If it makes you sleep better,

If it makes you sleep better, it didn't crash my task in progress (on stock 4.26).
I'll have to wait for the next one though before I can say if it's any faster. 50% to go. ;)

Yep another to say all went

Yep another to say all went smooth when changing from 4.26 to 4.32, did not lose my current 5 WU's, one is 26% done on 4.26 and the rest will be processed with 4.32.

I am curious if this app will

I am curious if this app will work for a Q6600 or if this is only for CPU's that have the highest instruction avlb as SSE? (i.e. not SSE2, SSE3, EM64T, etc)

It will (should) work. The Linux SSE app has been available for some time already and it seems to work just as well for Athlon XP (SSE only) as 45nm Intels with SSE4.

I've switched three of my

I've switched three of my SSE-capable Windows machines over, and everything seems to be good so far. Here's a list of the machines that I've switched:

Pentium IV Northwood, 2.4 GHz, running Windows XP Pro

Athlon 64 3500+, running Windows XP Media Center Edition. (Same as XP Home.)

Pentium III, 667 MHz, running Windows Server 2003

It should work fine. I've just switched two of my SSE2-capable machine over to it, and it's working fine for me so far.
