That would be really surprising given the fact that on a SSE capable PC, 4.46 is actually calling the 4.36 app executable :-). The switching mechanism is what this beta test is about, not any speed improvements.

You were right. The time is roughly the same if not slightly increased. Anyway, how am I helping by using the 4.46 app? I have already crunched a few WU with the new app. Should I report somewhere?

forgive my naive ignorance in advance

Gravity increases significantly in Autumn, because apples fall in large numbers during that time!

What you're testing is that the app is correctly selecting the right version for your CPU.

Just out of interest, how can we tell if the switching has worked correctly? Both BOINC and Task Manager list the running App as 4.46 and I can see nothing in the result that obviously indicates which App was actually selected, Dave.

Code swithing works well on

Code swithing works well on my Sempron (SSE3).

Hi!

You can check by inspecting a result, and look at the start of the stderr.out text:

5.8.16

Detected CPU type 1 2008-05-17 01:12:31.8632 [normal]:....

CPU Type 1 indicates a SSE capable CPU, while type 0 indicates a non-SSE capable CPU.

Sorry, I kind of was in Linux mode :-). For windows, you should note the exact name of the executable in the output:

2008-05-17 00:25:10.6753 [normal]: Start of BOINC application '..\\..\\projects\\einstein.phys.uwm.edu\\einstein_S5R3_4.46_windows_intelx86_1.exe'.

"_1" indicates SSE, "_0" non-SSE.
