Would like to know when we can up/download normally ?
Next month we expect to have a Stampede and E@H is our project but right now downloading Wu's is big shit !!
One of my quads has been busy for hours now to try to download and run.
Can't download normally and if that continues at least I will go back to SoB.
It's a loss of time to support a project that amateuristic at the moment.

March 17, 2010
We need to briefly shut down the project for a database update. This will happen about 16:00 UTC March 17 and should last about an hour.

Some hour.

I am getting the same on my 2

I am getting the same on my 2 crunching quads.

The BOINC Manager /Transfers/ tab is showing at least 2 windows worth of Einstein files to down load. Most of the time it says "download pending", and where it does download the file is coming here at 10.5kbps (20% the speed of dial up).

What is happening and when can we expect to see the project return to normal service?

Please see this post and this

Please see this post and this one. No idea if this is something they can 'fix' or if we just have to wait for enough people to manage to get all the files (just 3 left for me!) that the servers don't get hammered so much.

Whatever you do, don't reset the project or detach/reattach - this will simply get rid of all the files you already have and start the whole process over again. The best thing to do is to just leave BOINC at it (or shut it down and try again later, I suppose).

You refer to something that happened 5 years ago. One would expect one has learned to prefent.

Point taken ..... however we ain't doing now what we were doing then. :-)

E@H has been progressively more ambitious and has more contributors now. It's use of the 'locality scheduling' features of BOINC is rather unique in the DC community, so we tend to cop the consequences of that choice. Alas at the end of each run, and start up of the next we've always had a fuss. Predominantly it's been due to the reconciling ( 'marking off' ) of all work units in a run that can just slam the underlying database request/service/inquiry counts right over the top. I think it's basically CPU bound at present, but previously it's been other components ....

What do they say about motorcycles? 'No replacement for displacement' and 'brakes are the biggest impediment to speed known to mankind'. :-)

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

Well, I've read on our forum

Well, I've read on our forum that E@H DB has been off for a periode of 4 and 7 days for the past 7 months and that is not reassuring at the moment.
Particularly with the forthcoming Stampede.
If you're having problems right now I fear for next month.

It looks to be coming up fine now for GCE especially, there has been a gradual upwards tweak of the relevant 'maximum DB connections' parameter, and the log jam seems to be clearing. [ the busier the clients are doing some WU's, the less the servers get hammered ]. There was also an issue with the Glasgow and Caltech mirrors having the wrong skygrid files ( being corrected as we speak ), which was stuffing up GCE downloads. My i7 has chucked a couple thru without difficulty ( for instance this one ), so I think all will be well.

Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) I think I might be out of the relevant loop here, what's the Stampede coming this way ? Do tell ..... :-)

It's a yearly Dutch Power Cows event at which a lot of DPC-members choose a project to run for a month and this year it's E@H. Hence my reaction, perhaps a bit pissed off typing it, so we need to be sure everything is up and running asap.
