Youngsters may not think this is long waited but those of us that watched the first landing 40 years ago didn't think we would have to wait until we are 70 to see anything started up there.
So I guess the closest we will get to the Moon is looking at it from the Earth.
Back in the 1970's most of us thought there would be a space station on the Moon......not just one circling Earth only a couple hundred miles up.
We have satellites up there now that look like stars.

That is what the Moon is waiting for.....

If we want to return to the moon properly (which was denied us during the 60's race which lacked long term planning... Ahh! Glory... and not to get too political 'exceptionalism' ... it serves no purpose) we could take it one step further and have a station orbiting the moon with reusable landing craft. :-) NASA can do it, it just needs stable funding..

Yes I have been hoping they
)
Yes I have been hoping they would get inspired since the late 1970's so oldtimers like me could have went up there long before today.
If I am lucky I will just get to watch again and maybe even see one small step onto Mars.
