One of my CPU's is not running - it says on the task line that it's waiting for memory. I'm not using much besides Einstein so I can't understand what's using the memory. Oh, a few minutes ago my disc was all grey, and now it's aqua. What's going on here? Changing colors has not started the CPU working, it's still waiting..for what?

Does anyone know what's happening here or understand what I'm talking about?

"Waiting for Memory" - Never had this happen before

Most recent:

It did start to process (see below), but it's stopped again. Waiting for memory..I'm not using anything else but Solitare, waiting to see if everything was okay. Don't know if I should turn it all off and go to bed or leave it on.

Earlier:

When all else fails...I turned it off to reboot, and it came back fine and dandy. It's running both CPU's smoothly.

I think when they ran Benchmarks somebody forgot to turn off the fawcett...or something like that.

I turned it off last night,

I turned it off last night, restarted this morning, and my 2nd task was running.

I then went to a few sites, came back to check, and it's not running again -"waiting for memory."

What do I do and how do I check out what's wrong, other than going to see Ken at the computer store?

My problems all started with them doing Benchmarks and Microsoft installing updates....?????

Check your computing

Check your computing preferences under the "Disk and memory usage" section and increase the following:
Memory: when computer is in use, use at most XX% of total
Memory: when computer is not in use, use at most XX% of total
You have 1 GB of RAM and if the first setting is set to 50% (I think that's the default) then Boinc can only use 512 MB. A quick check shows S6 CasA task taking up to about 345 MB of RAM on my computer, so 2 would require about 700 MB.
Increasing both values to 75% should do it.

I changed the one from 50% to

I changed the one from 50% to 75%.

The "not in use" is presently set at 90% - that should go to 75% also?

This is what my former

This is what my former messages recorded:

10/14/2013 10:08:13 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 511.04MB
10/14/2013 10:08:13 AM||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 919.88MB

I can see how 75% would improve, but taking the 919.88 down to 75%, will that hurt?

And I've not changed these preferences since Einsteins selected them for me and have been doing all kinds of long long tasks simultaneously. Can't understand why this problem came up now.

No need to change the not in

No need to change the not in use value as that allows Boinc to use up to 90% of the RAM when the computer is not in use.
After your computer has contacted the project the new settings will be applied. You can speed this up by doing a manual update on the Einstein project. (Open Boinc Manager, project tab, click on Einstein to highlight it and then click on update on the left.)

I updated. If you can check

I updated. If you can check my figures, let me know if I did it right.

The 2nd task is now running. I hate when stuff happens that I can't understand. You know what, yesterday I went thru and deleted pictures, website favorites, etc., to reduce memory usage, but my computer tells me I have plenty of memory. Maybe one of them CPU's is just plain tired. Maybe if it discovered something it might wake up.

Thank you, Holmis

Sorry but only you can see that info. But if the log messages that you posted earlier now shows something like 750-800MB when active then I'd call it a success!

Good to hear! Maybe something else running on your computer takes more memory now than before or something new is running. Can't say what but you might want to open task manager and check out the running processes. Google is your friend to find out what's what and if it's wanted or not.

It looks okay - 766.57MB.

It looks okay - 766.57MB. Last thing that happened was Microsoft Updates when they were installed. Where does Google come into this?

What all could go wrong since I changed it to work? Even I know that smoke coming from the tower is probably not a good thing.

Thanks Holmis...
