Is there any known problem with validation of Windows vs. Mac for the Enhanced Einsteins?

wuid=10658751 and wuid=10676502 are both Checked, but no consensus yet

Both hosts do not always return invalid results.

If the problem is specific to my host, I could try to reduce OCing. If it is a system problem, someone should fix it.

p.s.: I guess, the third result of either WU will show it

hm, today I also had a WU where a Mac produced an invalid result:

But here were one windows pc, my linux pc and a mac

Is your PC like 12+ hours Prime95-stable? Then it shouldnt be your host but... who knows.. hm

I haven't tested it lately,

I haven't tested it lately, it runs quite long on several projects already (including 53k credits for Einstein) so it might have become a bit tired. Didn't cause problems so far - except for a wrong BIOS setting some time ago which caused the crunching tasks to exit now and then (FSB spread spectrum enabled), but without damaging results

I will watch the two WUs and decide what to do when the two outstanding results come in. Maybe it's just too hot for 11x200 at the moment, it's only an air cooled 1800+

I haven't noticed a single invalid result from any of my three Macs (G4s running OS 10.3.9) since S5 started. Nor were any of their WUs I’ve looked at resent before validation. Considering that their output is compared to a Windows host's about nine times in ten, I would expect a general problem to have surfaced by now, among the several dozen WUs they’ve turned in. Their pending WUs are all just waiting for the second result.

One workunit is completed

One workunit is completed now, the 3rd result made mine valid.

Lucky me - but then it would mean that there might be some issue with the Mac client :-/

I hope someone from the project can check this specific WU as long as the Deleter has not caught it. The validator might be too picky with this or that distinct result value.

It looks like a fluke to me (unlucky John!): aside from missing the deadline for one other WU, that host appears to be doing fine. Its next result after it was paired with you was successfully validated against another AMD/Win2k system. So if there is a systematic problem it must be quite rare or sporadic.

I’ve looked at some more of my Macs’ results, and my estimate that 90% would be paired with Windows systems turns out to be quite wrong. Series of WUs sliced from one large file get paired up with one of a very small number of other hosts that have downloaded the same file. As it happens, one of my G4 Macs running “short WUs (the third has only finished only one “long, taking over fifty hours) has been ‘collaborating’ with a couple of Intel/Linux systems, and the other with a G5 Mac & an Intel/WinXP. Still, there were no validation problems when it was paired with this last.

I have also had a workunit

I have also had a workunit fail validation against a Mac.
The third result was also sent to a Mac; I wonder whose result would've been validated if it had gone to a Windows box?

All three machines in the quorum used stock apps, and my host has never had validation problems.
If all machines are running stock apps why are different (invalid) results being returned?

EDIT : I started a thread in Problems and Bug Reports

There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers. - Richard Feynman

Huh, that now sounds like becoming a big problem... the developers should really fast take a look at the mac client....
