There should be a reason

There should be a reason given following the "No work from project" message.

From your machine eight results ticked in a minute apart after the first at 6:58 UTC, all with the same error. I think you eceeded your daily WU quota of 10/cpu, so you just have to wait.

I haven't seen this error message on Windows yet, you may take a look at the thread discussing this on Mac here.

I suggest you exit BOINC and maybe restart your computer, then wait for work from the project and see if it fails the same way.

okay, I'll reboot (right after my new RootKitRevealer finshes scanning)

unfortunately, there is no way to copy more than one line from the msg log (as shown in the viewer anyway), I'll look at the directory itself after reboot

after that msg, it just says:

deferring comm. (with varying time intervals on every occasion)
sending request
scheduler.... SUCCEEDED
not sending work - last RPC too recent
no work from project

blah - blah - blah

now daily quota of 8 WU exceeded

How can I extend this (for future reference) since it started happening 8 hrs
ago? rebooting now.

This just means that the last contact has been too recent - it should wait a little longer (than before) and then contact the server again, at least with a different outcome (message)...

> now daily quota of 8 WU exceeded

Oops - ok, so somebody set this to 8 now...

> How can I extend this (for future reference) since it started happening 8 hrs

You can't. It's a project setting on the server side that should keep buggy machines from trashing arbitrary amounts of Results.

after reboot, msg viewer

Message 4258 in response to message 4257

after reboot, msg viewer has:

Einstein@Home - 2005-02-23 11:20:46 - Deferring communication with project for 22 minutes and 54 seconds

I've never noticed this problem before, after starting BOINC up, it usually just runs, now I have no work listed on my Work tab, wasted time... it's not even about the points (I could care less), but it seems pretty inefficient from this end, what about 100,000's of CPU's waiting around

I looked around for the actual log but didn't find it, is it on my box?, do you know where it is? posting one line at a time is ridiculous IMO

is there any advantage to connecting to another project when I have no work available?

basically, I've been DIW for 9 hrs now, totally hosed up IMO

so, I've done no processing for over 9 hrs now because the server guys are trying to cut back production, got it

my latest msg entries:

11:20:46 - Deferring communication with project for 22 minutes and 54 seconds
11:43:41 - Insufficient work; requesting more
11:43:44 - Message from server: No work sent (daily quota of 8 WU reached)
11:43:44 - Project prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults
11:43:44 - No work from project
11:43:44 - Deferring communication with project for 1 hours, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds

BillyG, the reason your machine is running up against the daily quota is that it's not completing the work correctly. So it's generating errors on all the work. However the good news is that for a while your machine WAS generating successful results. I suggest you review your results on the 'Your Account' page. Did you change anything in your system setup that might explain why suddenly all the jobs started to fail?

Yesterday I changed my usage from 75% to 25% to see if it decreased the CPU maxage any but since it hasn't run any, I can't tell. I just put it back to 75% this morning since I couldn't tell BOINC was running on my box before anyway (it was just an experiment, woops!)

Here is what I see on the Review page:
