Here is link on a Hypothesis that I believe has some merit and requires further study about the significance of Humanity on this planet.
I think that Pierre Teilhard de Chardin,SJ, antedated all this by his "noosphere" hypothesis which goes back to the Fifties, well before Internet and the World Wide Web. Unfotunately, he is ignored by most people and also by his Church (he was both a paleontologist and a Jesuit priest).

I would think that if you could find evidence for quantum coherence in a living organism at the macroscopic scale, then that would make a good (inescapable?) argument for a Strong (quantum mechanically coherent) Gaia. It appears that the plants waste neither sunshine, nor time: Quantum secrets of plants revealed

My understanding of Quantum Coherence is lacking. From my understanding examples of quantum coherence at the macroscopic level are the laser super conductivity and super fluidity. It was also decribed that the thought experiment - 'Schrodinger Cat' is another example. I don't understand why evidence of this in a living organism here on earth would lead to evidence of a strong Gaia??. I understand that plants had 4 billon years to perfect photosynthesis process which I understand from the article is example at the microscopic level of Quantum Coherence in a living. Would you have any idea what an entire organism would be like that is Quantum Coherent. What about an entire species. Do we have wait until the earth evolves further or to think there evidence of 'this' that exists today... I am rambling...

I would suggest you to read two books by the British theoretical physicist Roger Penrose, Oxford University, namely "The Emperor's New Mind" (easier) and "Shadows of the Mind" (more difficult) which deal with the idea of some quantum coherence in the human brain.

Today's NY Times reviews two new biographies of Albert Einstein, of which there are more than 200, and also offers a chapter of each for anybody to read or print (registration required). My favourite biography of Einstein is "Albert Einstein, creator and rebel" by Banesh Hoffman and Helen Dukas.
