Some of the comets are fizzy...so they are yummy for the tummy.
That's how they propel themselves around the Sun, with the fizzy stuff coming out the back end. You can see them doing that. Because they like the warmth they turn around after passing by the Sun so as to try not to leave as quick. But by then they are not looking where they are going. They run backwards into Dan.
It's all in the fizzics.

Well it was the database and/or fileserver. Again. I gather the sheer volume, and rate thereof, managed by the project has and will increase so that refers back to how things scale up. Or fall down .... :-)

I've just made an end-of-financial-year purchase ( yeah, for tax reasons ... ) of a hot new box : Intel i7 2.7GHz, fast ASUS board, 750W Corsair PSU, 6GB DDR3 RAM, 2TB Western Digital HD, 9800GT graphics + Windows 7 ( 64 bit ) in a beautiful matt black case with a bevvy of fans, blue fluoro LED's and zee blinkin' lights. Just under $2000 AUD, inclusive of 10% GST. My precious ..... :-)

Now showing 8 virtual cores, running S5R5a_1 tasks at 796.20 Hz for sequence numbers 238 through to 245. About 3hrs 40 minutes per task predicted. This gives a daily rate of ~ 52 WU's for this machine!
BUT I've just discovered the NVidia 9800GT card is CUDA enabled. So let's download the proper drivers ( as BOINC hasn't recognised CUDA capability yet ).
Downloading ..... whoops 64 bit not 32 ....
Installing ....
Restart BOINC .....
Oooh ..... 'Requesting new tasks for GPU'
OH! ..... 'got 0 new tasks' :-(

Actually, as today we're trading a bit better, it's ~ $1612 USD
The tax deal was a 30% rebate, in addition to the usual 10% GST input tax credit, before 1st July - IF more than $1000 AUD on a single invoice for hardware only. Not software, not printer cartridges and consumables etc. So I'll wind up when the dust settles only paying 60% of that total ....
... our politicians go thru cycles. Last year they liked laptops, before that it was solar cells. They create a tax break for whatever technology they currently want to buy for themselves, wrap it up as a 'general' incentive for small business or homeowners or whatever and pass it as law. When they're done with their own purchases they bury it. The luxury car tax went back up after their garages were all BM'ered up. You have to have an accountant who keeps track of all this crap ....
