So, forgive me if this is already a thread somewhere. There are so many! I downloaded Einstein on March 10, and it's been chugging away ever since. It's sharing with SETI, but SETI only gets 20% of the time, and the BOINC program is running all the time. I already have plenty of SETI credits, but I don't have a single Einstein credit, not even so much as a pending credit. Is two months not long enough? Do I need to re-download? Any ideas?

Heather, the problem is that all the Einstein@Home WU on your machine are ending with one or more error conditions. I'm not sure why this is. Perhaps someone more knowledgable about BOINC can comment. I'm not sure if upgrading/downgrading your BOINC version would help.

It does seem like there is a problem somewhere - the above errors are for the 9 results currently linked to you, and they all end up being marked as Invalid due to the above errors. I can't help resolving this (others might) but I can help explain why you have no pending nor granted credit ;)

> Heather; I am guessing your computer is an off the shelf retail box (Dell, HP, Compaq, etc). I say this because these rigs are typically shipped (the bargain boxes) with the bare minimum of ram and a ton of bloatware integrated into the sofware. Looking at the information about your computer, you have a P4
processor, XP Home and 256 megs of ram. If I were to make a housecall on your rig, the first thing I would do is upgrade your ram to at least 512 meg. I would then search for any programs in your start menu that are just wasting cpu cycles and remove them (msconfig). Set your screen saver to none. Run Adaware and/or Spybot to kill any parasites you may have picked up along the way. I would delete BOINC completely. I would make sure you have a software firewall running, current antivirus definitions in place and all of the windows critical updates installed. I would then do a fresh install of BOINC (I am partial to 4.19, most later versions look and act like they were programmed by Miss Peach's fourth grade class). On the install, I would make sure that the screen saver is not set to default. Reattach to Einstein and make sure your preferences are_set to 100% and you have enough disc space allocated to the project. Get Einstein up and running and check your progress before throwing 20% at a peripheral effort like seti. Buy some ram and "get er done"!
