Einstien@Home is sending me way to many tasks. I have to keep aborting them as I cant finish them before the deadline.

Einstien is the only project I run on my CPU (I run Primgrid on my GPU).

My PC is running 8 tasks (Gamma-ray pulsar #5 1.08 (FGRPSSE)) at a time and takes aroun 8 hours to complete a taks.

So I can get through around 24 per day.

Deadline is 2 weeks  so I should be able to get through 336 in that time.

I currently have 1038 tasks assigned.

I dont like aborting tasks but I have no choice.

I  have "Store anat least 0.1 days of work" and "Store an additional 0.1 days of work" set.

Any suggestions on how to limit the number of tasks I'm sent.

cheers

Try  0.01   and   0.01   and then work your way up  (don't forget to do "read local prefs file" in OPTION) or

restart BOINC.

Should work.

There's a big difference

There's a big difference between 'server sends too much' and 'client requests too much'. Please keep an eye on your event log and try to work out which of the two applies in your case.

The project tends to send what is asked for.  Most likely your BOINC client is asking for too much.

Have you perhaps enabled 'locations'?  This would allow different preference settings to apply for each different location - 'generic', 'home', 'work' and 'school'.  Perhaps your computer is in a different location to the one that has the above settings.  Those values (if they truly applied) would not allow the project to send the numbers of tasks you mention.  The project doesn't force extra tasks above what the settings allow.

You have 4 computers that show on the website.  Does the same problem occur for all 4?  Go to your computers list on the website and click the details link for each machine.  That will show the location for each one.  If you haven't changed any locations, they all should show as 'generic'.  Check the work cache preference settings for whatever location each machine belongs to.  If you make changes to settings, don't forget to save them.

If tasks take around 8 hours to complete, what value shows for the estimate (in Boinc Manager) for all the tasks that are waiting to run?  Hopefully it should be pretty close to 8 hours.  If the estimate happens to be ridiculously low, then you need to investigate why.

Cheers,
Gary.
