That would be me and all the others that did their last run to the Supermarkets early, 08:30 Thursday. It was about 3 times busier than normal.

My wife and son just went out and did their last bit of Christmas shopping and grocery store pickup, we hope, they said they were pretty empty.

We have a white Christmas and freezing cold temperatures.  It must be cold.  I actually put on a coat.

Depending on where you step, we have 8-10 inches of that White stuff.

All we got was wet. And a bit

All we got was wet. And a bit windy.

*gaze rotundly round thread* That stick I mentioned - it doesn't half look like a musical instrument... it mostly does. It probably isn't though. It says on the internet it's a stick.

That means it's a stick.

I'm more dubious about its claim to be science to be honest, or rather an experiment that advanced science. There were a lot of those, around about that time - or so it seems to me - that were dubious...

Assuming they weren't traumatised by the experience, for this one, it definitely paid to be the male of the species.

I personally would have just deduced the proof.

edit: I'm waiting for something to cool enough so I can put it into the fridge, or I wouldn't be here at all. No.

I'd be asleep, or trying to be asleep.

another edit: I suppose that would have been a good time to say night night.

Night night.

There! :) Did it! Sweet dreams everyone and happy boxing day.

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

The Henry Cavendish

The Henry Cavendish experiment to measure* Newton's gravitational constant G ? It had lots of sticks and balls ....

Cheers, Mike.

* Or alternatively "weighing the Earth", depending upon which way you wanted to run the logic.

( edit ) FWIW this stick & ball gadget, over 200 years ago, gave a result about 1% away from the modern value of ...... :-)

One is not confident a link between Cavendish and:-

It's interesting you brought up turkeys. It's a huge step forward for you all. Well done! :) Apparently. between 10 and 20% of the females grow beards.

...will be easily established - but nor was the appearance of the bearded gobblers in the thread entirely made clear to start with. ;-)

Wishing all who post and/or pass their time here silently - a pleasant and happy end to 2017.
