These daily updates may be ok for people that only have one cpu. HOWEVER, I have a small farm and this is a bit to much. I just installed 4.16 on Sunday and then yesterday 4.17 came out so I updated. Got up this morning and found that 4.18 was out. Started to update to 4.18 tonight and found that 4.19 is out. Would it be to much to ask that maybe if you know that you have a new update coming out tomorrow you hole off on updating today. I am not updating to 4.19 for a while. Think I will wait for the confusion to settle down.

TIME OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. If it's working for you and it works for the science, then there's no reason to update. I however like the thrill of testing out new stuff, so I update immediately. I love the smell of burning Silicone, or was that silica??. lol

Understood!
But maybe not so much confusion as incredible advancements. Quite possibly spurred on by Einstein@Home team.
And now look what ya did. 4.19 just replaced 4.13 as public release.

Hmm, wasn't there something about "lab rat" then signing up... :)
If running as service under NT in a lan, it's possible to install BOINC to one computer and just upgrade the rest by using a batch-file. ;)

I think people are misunderstanding the whole "beta test" idea. We are not here for credit. We are not here for ease of use. We aren't even here for the science really. We are here to help THEM get all the bugs worked out so that the final release goes as smoothly as possible. If that means 3 upgrades in 1 day, so be it. If you are unwilling to make this sacrifice, you probably shouldn't be a beta tester. (IMHO) I'm not trying to get you to leave and I'm sure the project team appreciates having your farm on board the beta test as it is no doubt helping them track down bottlenecks in the system but when the goin' gets rough, please remember WHY we are here.

Well, sometimes the Einstein folks might not know that BOINC Development is going to release a new client. In fact, sometimes the BOINC team won't know it's going to be ready, until it is ready.
Sounds like 4.19 fixes the current major issues successfully, and is the Next "release" version, replacing 4.13. All of the other's were "development versions". Seems like it is working very well for most folks.

James,
I'm also running a "farm" with 13 and more boxes. It takes quit some time to update them and it is not possible for me to upgrade several boxes under the week, because people are using this boxes for their work. Normally I have to wait until weekend before I can upgrade all my boxes.
When a new version comes out, I wait 1 - 2 days, what message-boards-post say about the experiences with the new version. Most boxes are running CPDN and it is not good, if they loose these WUs. If a new version is stable, this is normally clear in 2 - 3 days.
At the moment, all my boxes are at 4.15 and they will stay there until weekend.
Supporting BOINC, a great concept !
Good news is on the horizon
)
Good news is on the horizon for people with windows farms. The 4.6x version uses the microsoft msi installer package. It should be possible to set up a batch file that will do the installs on all the computers at once.

Hey John,
how long will it take for me to understand what I have to do for this automatic-install-package ;-))

I too have a "farm", and so
)
I too have a "farm", and so far this week have spent a couple of hours a day updating these clients manually.
For me the problem is not so much Eisnstein and the changes that requires, because yes it is a beta test and thus change can be expected. I had a chopice to sign up, and I have a choice as to how many PCs run Einstein, thus I could limit my exposure.
My problem is that Predictor seems to demand these upgrades as much as Einstein. Indeed Predicotr have posted on their site that clients with 4.13 wont be able to connect after the 31st Jan. Predicotr was supposed to be ready for the public (I've certainly not seen messages saying it's in beta, biut could be wrong). As Predictor runs on most of my machines I'm having to update too many, too often. Lets hope 4.19 proves to be the one.

You got me, I'm just repeating things I've read in the docs. I don't think anyone has actually tried this functionallity yet.
