Topic 198024

My computer is CPU limited to three simultaneous FGRP4-SSE2 tasks. Does anybody know of an app_config.xml to enforce any given limitation?

I have memory limitations when crunching ATLAS, for which I use:

ATLAS
1

When crunching for pogs.theskynet.org_pogs, I use:

magphys_wrapper
3

Without an app_config.xml I have to babysit the project, switching between NNT/ANT and Suspend/Allow Task.

The Image Name is hsgamma_FGRP4_1.05_windows_intelx86_FGRP4-SSE2.exe*32

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Is there an app_config.xml for FGRP4?

In the BOINC Manager you can go into your preferences and set the amount of processors to use, between 0 and 100% so on a quad-core, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, means 1,2,3 or 4 cores used respectively.

Also, in your account settings for Einstein you also have a setting where you can tell how many cores einstein can use and it's also percentage based.

I believe the Einstein account preferences are more granular as it limits how many cores Einstein itself can use, while under the BOINC Manager settings it's between all your projects.

Someone else may have a more thorough suggestion,

Good luck!

@Steveplanetary What you

@Steveplanetary

What you want in the -tag is hsgamma_FGRP4
If you are using a cc_config.xml then set the log flag to 1 and you'll get messages like this in Boinc's event log:

Quote:
23/03/2015 20:46:11 | Einstein@Home | [cpu_sched] Starting task LATeah0110E_80.0_162_-2.49e-10_1 using hsgamma_FGRP4 version 105 (FGRP4-SSE2) in slot 4

As you can see the name of the application is between "using" and "version", that holds true for all projects and all applications. For more info on both app_config.xml and cc_config.xml see the wiki here.

@Manuel
The computing prefs found here on the website is the same as in Boinc manager (although the actual words may differ), the difference is that the web prefs are global. If you run multiple projects on the same computer it will use the prefs from the project where you last edited them and those settings will then be updated on all the other projects. All computers in the same venue/location use the same prefs. The local prefs in Boinc on the other hand only apply to that specific computer and the local prefs always override the web prefs.

Thanks for the information

Thanks for the information regarding -tag, Holmis. No more babysitting.

If I recall correctly, it was information gleaned from Event Log that enabled me to write a working app_config.xml for pogs (after two failures).

Also, thanks for the link to the BOINC wiki. I always wondered what a cc_config.xml was for. I'm still digesting that information.
