I felt so lucky to find a small team, but it's a lot smaller than I reckoned. I'm the only one alive, it appears, in Michiganians. Maybe I'll stay in case anybody comes back, but if I don't, how would I choose another team (where are they listed), would I be able to keep my "results" and credits?
First things first, I'd like to spend some time picking a group. Where's a good place to start? I remember a spot where they asked what criteria I would like, but don't know where it is now...

Teams & Credits

First, you don't need to belong to a team.
It's an optional choice to work colaborativelly and/or to win challenges like which groups advances faster or also to calculate the agregate work from people with something in common (from the same country or the same city, or fans of a certain movie, etc.)
Your credits will be allways yours, and while you are part of a team the credits you earn since your subscription are also added to the team... (and only the credits earned while you are part of the team, not the full amount of credits you have).
Im not sure if the team retains your contribution when you leave that team, but for sure you wont lose any credits.
How to choose a team... Im not sure, look in the statistic pages like BoincStats to see which teams there are here and to get some insight on their motivations...

As long as you are part of a Team your credits go with the Team, as you said, now though they stay with the Team, as Team credits even when you leave. BUT your individual credits will ALWAYS be yours. If you are on a Team and then switch to another Team then the credits shown will be different then your total individual credits.
There was a problem a while back where people were 'charging' to bring a bazillion credits to a team, then moving onto the next Team, each Teams credits would skyrocket then drop in the overall credits.
Here is a list of alot of the Teams across Boinc, finding one the current way is difficult so here is a list to get you started:
