I notice that E@H is downloading several WU's. However, it seems that several of the downloads have exceeded 100% of the size. E.g 16.55Mb of 15.47Mb. I have killed each of these strange downloads.

Looks like I will have to attach to a new project (together with E@H) on all my machines, since E@H is just becoming too flaky to ensure no idling of my machines...

Large downloads are quite normal, as we were discussing with tweakster. They end up on my disk as 15,840 KB.

Have you checked whether there was any actual problem with the downloaded file? It could just have been BOINC counting retries etc. - the uploads often go over 100%, too.

I've seen this behavior (both upload and download) on many different projects and every single time it is 100% OK and nothing is wrong with the file. I agree with Richard on it could be counting the retries since I have also seen uploads that get to xx% yyKB/zzKB and I'm not even connected to the internet! (dial up) But it all works out in the end, personally I don't worry about it at all.

Don't get distracted by shiny objects.
