I have been participating in Einstein@Home for about 3 years but when I first began to receive the new S5R4 downloads I'm having the same problem with two machines which are basically identical. (same MB and processor)
If for whatever reason I become disconected while downloading new data (with my activity settings are set to "run based on preferences" and "network activity based on preferences") the program locks up and upon rebooting the machine I get the BOINC icon in the lower tray with a white circle and a red X. This is occurring whether I'm running the older 5.xxx BOINC software or the latest 6.xxx software.
At this point, the only thing to get the machine back up and running is to uninstall the BOINC software, reinstall, and download the 50 or 60 MB of data from the beginning. Once in a while I have just let the machine set for a period of time and after 30 minutes or so the red X is gone and I can launch the program from the "normal" looking BOINC icon, but now that no longer seems to resolve the problem.
Anyone have an idea what is happening and how I can get the program back up to complete the download without having to completely start over?
Thanks,
Gary

Simple Problem (yeah right)
)
Hmmm... Curious...
First off, which host are you talking about? Is the the Athlon running 9x?
Second, due to the architectural change between 5x and 6x it's probably not a good idea to be switching back and forth between the two very much, especially on 9x.
In any event, when you uninstall any 5.10.x version you should not loose anything you have onboard for the projects unless you dleted the remaining files and folders yourself manually.
