A new project known as Galaxy Zoo is calling on members of the public to log on to its website and help classify one million galaxies.

The hope is that about 30,000 people might take part in a project that could help reveal whether our existing models of the Universe are correct.

Totally awesome, Keith! Thanks for the heads up. Pretty sure one of my galaxies (so far) has a partial Einstein Ring (less than 180º around). Very exciting being able to help using the good ol' fashioned cruncher! They don't have the forum up yet...

That is not really surprising, as the current approach to pattern recognition of objects tends to make use of neural net processing, after some conventional pre-processing!

Just wanted to say thanks

Just wanted to say thanks again for pointing out the Zoo, a smashing success by the looks of things around their forum, something like 80,000 people classifying all the galaxies. I was happy to get this one in particular:

Keep my eye open for one that looks like the letter “H, shall I? :) (actually seen quite a few that look like an “S)
