I've just noticed that my firewall blocked and logged attempts by einstein_S5R6_3.01_windows_intel86_S5R6sse2.exe to contact 128.32.18.189 (Berkeley) and 129.89.71.60 (Wisconsin U) on 30 Jan. Never seen that before.

From the time, it was associated with BOINC message

Output File h1_1045.65_S5R4_636_S5R6a_1_0 for task h1_1045.65_S5R4_636_S5R6a_1 absent

I switched to a new firewall about 10 days ago. Should I allow that communication?

My guess is that the application crashed first, and then tried to contact those two locations to get the debug symbol files so that it could write a meaningful error report. If you can prevent the crash happening in the first place, you won't need to allow the science application through the firewall (all normal communication is done by the BOINC client): but if it keeps crashing, allowing it to fetch the symbols will make it easier to debug the problem.

Thanks Richard. Don't often see a failure, but I'll allow it through anyway.
