S4, science results?

All those WUs, all that number crunching on thousands of PCs, ... and the (early look) results are?

When can we expect to see an announcement?

And when papers are published, or conference presentations concluded, how will those who contributed (by donating CPU cycles) be able to get copies?

(I rather doubt that many would be able to afford to go to the relevant conference, or get a subscription to the relevant journal).

The last S4 WUs have been crunched only days ago. The results will be thought over in depth, I'm sure, and besides they will probably be compared to S3, to know if the project is headed in the right direction. Several months won't be too much, IMO. May be we'll have to be patient. :))

We don't have to be patient,

We don't have to be patient, we just have to ask louder, faster, and more efficiently. If we stay up the complain level to about 5 megacomplaints per minute, we'll have the results in no time.

Thanks. :) I'm not a manager, but I've done some work for the government so I've seen the absolute best, in action. It was really something.

It took them a while, but

It took them a while, but they posted a nice user-friendly analysis of the S3 results eventually on the main page. You can still find it there, and it gives a good understanding of waht we're doing here.

However, from memory (patchy as it is) it took quite a while for that to appear.

Folks, Post-processing of

Folks,

Post-processing of the S4 work units is underway. When it is over we will make some kind of announcement, perhaps along the lines of the S3 writeup you can see from the front page. Those of you who have been around a while may recall that we kept saying "any day now" on the S3 writeup for 2-3 months. That's why we're reluctant to make any promises about deadlines this time. But we are working on it.

Stay tuned,

Ben

Today we passed the 50% complete point on our first S5 search! We estimate that all the work for this first S5 search will have been sent out by about February 10th 2007. Also, the LIGO Scientific Collaboration has recently completed its review of our S3 search, and approved distribution of the final results, which will be posted here in the next day or two.

Is this up yet? Or have I missed it somewhere.

Why S3 appeared in that news

Why S3 appeared in that news instead of S4?

Hopefully it's a typo and they meant S4.
