Topic 188419

I had one of these a week ago, and it went overdue. Now, I've got a second one. What is this problem, and what should I do when it occurs?

I looked at your computer and everything looks fine. Don't lose any sleep over the occaisonal 'lost' WU if by and large your computer is returning successful results (and your computer IS doing this).

The WU are lost because of bugs in the BOINC core client, and can also be lost if there is a networking glitch and the 'scheduler reply' never arrives at your machine. As long as it only happens occaisonally, don't worry about it.

If you are really bugged by this, try upgrading to the 4.25 or later core client. But this is not a guaranteed fix.

Cheers,

My third WU, that was

My third WU, that was processed at 1 or 2 March (with deadline at 7 March) yesterday was lost from list! More that 1 week this record was good, but today it was lost... ???

Today record:
1473214 362420 28 Feb 2005 7:50:08 UTC 7 Mar 2005 7:50:08 UTC Over No reply New 0.00 --- ---

I review list with results,

I review list with results, and saw that this work unit with name H1_0954.9__0955.3_0.1_T00_Test02 is a one of "Phantom WU" with name *T00*, that I never processed. But yesterday on third position was placed WU with granted credit more than 100 (and this WU "with 100" not be alone!). Today from my list was losed some units and when I sum all granted credits I have a sum on 400 smaller than my total credit. (And all WU "with 100" was lost!).

I don't understand... Problems with database?

And additional question -

And additional question - these WU's are lost only for results list or FOR SCIENCE? :(

hoarfrost, The WUs are not

hoarfrost,

The WUs are not lost when they disappear from your list if it happens after you have gotten the credit. After all the hosts return the results, they only stay in the database for a fixed amount of time (I think it's about 1 week). After that, the WUs will disappear from your list, but the points will stay in your account. At that point, the science is done, so they get archived and moved off the server so it doesn't get overloaded storing all the old data.

Your account will always keep those points, you just won't be able to see the WUs in your list anymore.

Hope that helps explain it.

Thank you!
My account is alright.
I was afraid that results of my computations were lost...

But I don't understand, why in first, from my list were excluded a second, fourth and fifth results?

That's only because of the different times that other people reported them. They get removed on a fixed time after the 3rd person finishes them and the points are granted. Since other users return the results at different times than you do, your list will always remove old WUs out of order.

If one of the other people doing your first result was slower to return it than one of the other people doing your fourth result, then your fourth result would drop from the list before your first one, since it got all of its data back and granted its points first.
