There's still confusion about which one to select:
Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo):
Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo, GPU):
Wouldn't it be simple and effective to just rename these subprojects to e.g.
Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo for CPU, Intel GPU and ARM):
Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo for AMD and nVidia GPUs):
Distributing the work like this makes sense, but it would be nice to reduce the confusion for unexperienced users.

rename Arecibo subprojects
)
It would also be helpful if the choices could be reflective of the name a user sees in their Boinc Task Manager. It's sometimes hard to know what (FGRPSSE) for example, means in relation to what to disable or enable when choosing which units to crunch. Some pc's seem to just trash some types of units and do just fine on other types, some users would LOVE to crunch, but have a hard time deciphering what they see on screen with what they see on the website.
For instance I trashed a small bunch of the units, task name for example LATeah0064C_96.0_1782_-1.94e-10_1, but have no clue how that relates to the website which gives me workunit choices of:
Run only the selected applications
Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo): no
Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo, GPU): no
Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Perseus Arm Survey): yes
Gravitational Wave S6 Directed Search (CasA) : yes
Gamma-ray pulsar search #3: yes
UNTIL I went to the website and say that those units were ALSO listed as:
Gamma-ray pulsar search #3 v1.11 (FGRPSSE) under my list of units that had errors. More similarities between what a user sees on their desktop to their choices of units to crunch would make it easier for the newbie or even experienced person wanting to crunch what works. I can search on the internet for how to build a bomb in a pressure cooker, but it would take me some time to get both the directions and find out where to get the parts, there is no reason to make it that hard to crunch!
When I open Boinc in advanced
)
When I open Boinc in advanced view and look at the task tab in the "Application" column I see the names of the applications exactly as they appear in the prefs when choosing what applications/searches to run or not. The only difference is that I also get info on the application version and variant. It's been this way for quite some time (many Boinc versions).
So if you run into trouble with on kind of task just check the application column in Boinc and then edit the prefs!
