Now that a workaround has been found and reported in several threads, maybe somebody in authority might like to advise us about what happened.
Specifically, it would be helpful to know exactly what caused this and if there are any longer term ramifications. After all I'm sure we don't want to have to keep updating preferences in order to coax a response out of the scheduler.
I presume it wasn't just a simple change otherwise it would have been quickly reversed as soon as the problem was first reported. I guess I'm really looking for assurance that this was just a "once off" hiccup and we can all go back to sleep now :).
A short summary of the problem, posted here, would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Gary.

I don't think we will get it soon, as it is May 1st. and in some countries in Europe, because being a sunday, they extend the holyday to monday 2.
The problem solves as said by many by going to preferences and updating them, then you can download and upload easily however, what is not solved is that in the hosts projects lip, the updating of the total crecits (for Einstein only) is not working not even with the update. It just stays there and causes the message as follows, to continue on and on:
01/05/2005 9:43:10|Einstein@Home|Sending request to scheduler: http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/EinsteinAtHome_cgi/cgi
01/05/2005 9:43:11|Einstein@Home|Scheduler RPC to http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/EinsteinAtHome_cgi/cgi failed
01/05/2005 9:43:11|Einstein@Home|No schedulers responded
01/05/2005 9:43:11|Einstein@Home|Deferring communication with project for 2 hours, 35 minutes, and 37 seconds
It is curious, I can upload and download, but can not update the credits!!!
