I'd like to know when the five different science runs were in 'action' and in how many workunits they were divided.

I found this: LIGO Science Links
You'll notice (under the Data Runs section) that there have also been many engineering runs, in addition to the science runs. Many of these are restricted to public access. However, under the "Documents / Archived Messages / Meeting" section, you can click the "Public" link, and then enter, say "s4", for your keyword, and click "Submit Search"...
There's probably an easier way to find the info you're after. If I happen to run across it in the format you're looking for, I'll post it...
