Hi Akosf,
You created code "JoeB" for a test on my Athlon cpus. My message
These are thunderbird cores. They worked fine with 387 and are now running "JoeB" very well. But they still will not work with D40. If the project changes albert to run like D40, not all cpus might run it.
About "JoeB" you said. Which sin/cos algorithm are you using in D40? I can run more tests if you are interested.
Thanks
JoeB

D40 uses a sin/cos lookup table with interpolation. (like as C40)

I'm not sure, but perhaps Win98 doesn't support 3DNow!
Win98 can find "NaN" (Not a Number) values on the FPU stack when it does a task switching, but they are correct numbers under 3DNow!.
So, what does happen after a switch-back? I don't know...

I can tell you 3DNow definitely is not a problem with win98se. You can check my results and see lots of valid done with D40 on xp2500+ barton core, clocked at 2.1ghz so reports as xp3000+

Ok. I don't have more idea to find out the reason of the problem of JoeB's Thunderbird.

edit: I looked after to 3DNow! on AMD website.
Unlike other SIMD (single instruction multiple data) technologies, 3DNow!â„¢ technology does not require operating system changes. It is supported now in Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0

Hi Akosf et al, Thank

Hi Akosf et al,
Thank you for the help. It seems as though I'm the only one with this problem, so I guess the problem is here somewhere.

I am using three ASUS A7V motherboards. One of these is running an Athlon Model 6 which I believe is the Palimino core. All Askof's 3dnow software runs well on that machine. The other two motherboards are using model 4 Athlons which I believe are Thunderbirds. The only Akosf software that runs on these 2 are 387 and "JoeB".
All three use win98se.

I Have:

-Stopped overclocking - I have tried normal and conservative settings
-Tried different amounts and speeds of memory
-Am running the same bios settings (except for cpu speed)on all 3 A7Vs.

At the moment I'm still running "JoeB" on the model 4s. It is very good - Thank You Akosf, not everyone has personalized software!

If anyone has any additional ideas to try, please let me know. This is a very curious problem and I will continue to work on it.

Have you tried the official

Have you tried the official beta app on one of your canaries yet?

Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.

Download CPU-Z to find out what abilities your CPUs have.

http://www.cpuid.com/index.php

You don't have to install this tool, just unzip it and use it.

Hi, CPU-Z and Beta App.

Hi,
CPU-Z and Beta App. Two good ideas. I will try both and report back tomorrow.
Thanks

The beta app is a lot slower than D40, so I hope for you, your CPUs support 3DNow!

Hi,
I ran CPUZ on one of the cpus. It is a thunderbird. CPUZ says it has MMX(+) and 3DNow!(+). But it also says there is no L2 cache prefetch. I seems to remember that prefetch is a 3DNow! optimization tool. Could that be the problem?
