Laryea, most home internet

Laryea,

most home internet connections including standard dialup and most types of broadband do not require use of a proxy.

If your Internet Explorer works, you can use it to determine if you access the net via a proxy. In IE goto Tools -> Internet Options.

In the window that pops up, goto the connections tab. Click LAN Settings and LAN connections window pops up. The bottom part of this window contains proxy connection information. If this is blank and the 'Use proxy server' check box is empty then you do not use a proxy.

In this case, you can ignore the proxy option in BOINC. This more than likely will be the case ... unless perhaps you access the net from a work network (and even at that you may not use a proxy).

If, in IE, you determine that you do indeed use a proxy, just copy the settings from Internet Explorer into BOINC and it should work fine.

Paul.
