Einstein@Home stuck on the same  Progress % and Elapsed time - even saw th eproject aCctive many times

Is been like this maybe for at least 1.5-2 month

How do i restart it again without loosing data done?

Do you have Boinc set to suspend when you use the pc? If so that's most likely the problem, and the default settings when Boinc gets installed. You can change them on the website by clicking https://einsteinathome.org/account/prefs/computing/edit/generic

Or going to Accunt, Preferences, generic, advanced settings.

The top section is the section I'm talking about and are the default settings, if you make changes be sure to go to the bottom of the page and click Save to make sure the changes take affect.

HI Thanks for the input but i DID not change anything in years - I don't know how many 10 or 20 yrs

Since the beginning of Boinc - I never had a problem - only now and it looks like only with this project. Have a few others working fine. BTW Einstein at home works fine on other computers - al with default settings

You have 3 computers listed on your account.  The one that has the 7.16.11 version of BOINC has no tasks allocated to it so I don't know why you would think that one was stuck at some particular partial progress.

There is a second machine that shows two tasks, one listed as canceled because it wasn't started by the deadline.  The other task shows as being "in progress".  The BOINC version there is 7.16.6.  The machine has an old core2duo CPU so it's likely to be quite slow.  The current tasks are quite demanding computationally.  Is that the machine you're talking about??   The first machine has a much stronger CPU so should perform better.

The third machine hasn't contacted the project for nearly two weeks and has version 7.10.2 for BOINC.  It shows 8 tasks, 7 of which are listed as compute errors.  The final task shows as "in progress" but is going to expire in around 8 hours time.  Perhaps this is the machine you're talking about??

Shut BOINC down and reboot your machine.  When the machine has restarted, start BOINC again.  You wont lose anything by stopping and restarting BOINC.  When BOINC has restarted, open BOINC Manager (Advanced View) and copy all the startup messages from the event log and paste them into your next message here so that we can see what BOINC reports about the startup.

Cheers,
Gary.

Thanks for details. The 2

Thanks for details. The 2 core old one is my old iMac with 7.16.6. The 7.16.11 on i5-2500k - still very old maybe 10 yrs on win10 and a few VM instances. This is the one which seems stuck - Funny enough just to prove me wrong ;) I see the elapsed time advancing by a few minutes ( I think by 6min 1st time in a long time)- and as you said is way overdue - 8.22.20
So How do I cancel it and get a new one.?
The 3rd ( only 3? I s'd have more ) I have no idea - I do have a suspicion that it is my NY desktop computer but since COVID I didn't go there in a long time and probably computer went to sleep. I had to access it remotely a few week s back, but only once.

Here my Win10/VM machine

For your i5-2500k, did you attempt to look at the list of tasks for that host, as shown on the website?  That was the first thing I did seeing as you hadn't given a proper ID for the particular host you were talking about.  As I mentioned in my previous reply, there are absolutely no tasks listed for that host.  For that reason, I discounted it.  How was I supposed to know that you would be still trying to process a task that was approaching 6 weeks past its deadline - a task so out of date that it no longer exists in the online database??

In the screen shot you have now posted, did you happen to notice the commands list on the left hand side?  If you look down that list, can you see a button labeled "Abort", but 'greyed-out'?  Have you tried selecting the expired task to see what happens to that 'greyed-out' command?  Please take some time to go and read the BOINC User Manual - particularly the section headed "Running BOINC: basic" which covers all these very basic things in a lot of detail.

Did you also notice the "Status" column in the screenshot?  Every time you touch your keyboard or mouse, your computer will be "in use" and tasks will get suspended.  Have you checked your preferences to see what happens to tasks when they get suspended?  If they are not being "kept in memory" then every time this will result in loss of progress since a task has to be restarted from an earlier saved state if it's not being kept in memory.  Your i5-2500k is a decent CPU that should be able to easily handle your personal workload and the crunching duties without needing to suspend crunching when "in use".  You should try changing that preference setting.  The repeated suspending and restarting is probably why the E@H task is making no progress.  It would be going backwards on each restart.

You do have a whole bunch more in your full list of hosts.  I just mentioned the ones that had activity in the last 30 days.  There were others that were last active many months ago - so very unlikely to have any current task fitting your description.

Cheers,
Gary.

Hi - It all seems way too

Hi - It all seems way too complicated for me now to go over preferences on a site ? I NEVER ever went to whatever sites until lately -

I never had any problems in 10-20+ years( I think it was late 90s). Started with Seti@Home and after that added Einstein and that was it for many years - Always checked rarely adjusted the default preferences from the computer boinc was installed on. Only recently as Seti is no more I added more projects and FORCED to go to many sites - BTW I don't like to go to sites for something on my computers) So it looks like I have to abandon all this - no time and don't feel like wasting more to figure out what's broken after no problems for so long. Actually I was inclined to delete all the projects - since I see a lot of notices that I'm using an old url -Too bad this is coming to an end
Again I DID NOT touch the preferences - on my computer not online from the day I installed it - many yrs ago

And yes "leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended" is ON

One more try

I reset the Einstein Project - which you never mention I can do

Boinc manual? You kidding rite? ;)

There is no way I will read the manual now - I don't even know where to get one Who reads manuals?

If a screen saver needs a manual then you have a BIG problem

BTW I hit reset project 5 min ago and nothing happens

The event stuck on Resetting project

How long does it takes?

Anyway enough wasted time for me and you of course

Thanks

Anyone who thinks they're too

Anyone who thinks they're too good to read a manual after 20 years doesn't realize that there may just be a few changes over time and that just maybe their lack of reading might be the reason they're crying out for help.

Maybe they should be ignored...

Did I just say that?  It must have been my inner voice commanding my fingers to type...

Hehe is not about too good or

Hehe is not about too good or not to read the/a manual - I don't even know that there is a manual. But regardless if there is one or not,  needing one for a screen saver is way too much... in my 'book' ;) - It was fine without 'documentation' for may years - left almost everything as default, some time just reducing computer usage and never had a problem. I just don't want to spend time with it - if it works fine, if it doesn't it will go away - fish tank screen saver can be cool too. -:)
