Firstly I do not understand most of the questions on this message board let alone the answers, so if you can help please do so in laymans language.

BOINC appears to work on four different sets of data at a time and each set appears to take up in the region of 25% of the available computer. As a result processing keeps stopping and I get a message saying that Einstein at home is not running and then it starts up again.

Is it possible to reduce the number of units of work it is working on to just two so that they run all the time.

Thanks in anticipation of a response

Yes it's possible to reduce the number of units to run at the same time. To set it up just go to your account and click on the link "Computing preferences" or follow this link.
Then scroll down and click on "Edit preferences" and change "On multiprocessors, use at most 100% of the processors" to 50% to use 2 of the 4 cores. The option above it that talks of the number of processors are for older versions of Boinc and is no longer used.

While you're there read through the different options so you can set it up to your liking and if you have question I or someone else will do our best to answer them. I would check out the setting for "Suspend work if CPU usage is above 25%" and set it higher, maybe above 50%. I have it set to 0 and thus it's disabled so the Boinc will never suspend regardless of what else might run. Boinc and Einstein run at the lowest priority and gets out of the way of most other programs one run on a computer and have almost never interfered with the use of my computer, and if it does it's easy enough to right click the icon down by the clock and suspend it.

Thanks very much for

Thanks very much for responding. I have reset my preferences and will see how it goes.

Thank you also for responding in language I could understand :-)

I hope all goes well and you

Having carried out all that

Having carried out all that was suggested this has not solved the problem.

I am getting the message "no running Tasks" Computing suspended because processor usage is high"

There are still 4 pieces of work being worked on and each takes up around 25% of the computer processing. I increased the Disk:use at most to 200 but that appears to have made no difference.

This problem only started very recently and there are no other processes taking place using losts of processing space.

Any ideas please

Then you obviously don't have carried out all what was suggested. ;-)

Reread the part of Holmis's post about "Suspend work if CPU usage is above 25%" and set it higher.

The setting "Suspend work if

The setting "Suspend work if CPU usage is above 25%" will suspend Boinc and Einstein if anything else on the computer use more than the set percentage.
As I wrote earlier I have it set to 0 (zero) to disable this function so that Boinc and Einstein will never get suspended.

As both I and Gundolf have said set it higher or to 0 to remedy the problem.

Thanks for the reply. I set it to zero but the problem still remains

There might be a delay before

There might be a delay before the setting is used as Boinc needs to contact the project servers before it knows about the new setting. This can be done manually by opening Boinc and in "advanced view" on the projects tab, click on Einstein to highlight it and then on the left click on "update".

Another possibility is that you have set local prefs via Boinc. These are located in the "Tools" menu and "Computing preferences", local prefs always override the online ones so if these are set either change them instead or clear them to revert back to the online prefs again.

The setting "Suspend work if CPU usage is above 25%" is called "While processor usage is less than 25%" in the local prefs.

Thanks very much. I changed

Thanks very much. I changed the localpreferences as well and that appears to have solved the problem
