Hello folks,

what I didn't get from the discussions about the optimized clients is which one is to prefer for an AthlonXP, the D40 with 3DNow or the S40 with SSE.

I run an AthlonXP 2800+ Barton. Which client is the better Choice?

Thx + happy chrunching

I recommend S40.12. S40 or the former S39L already perfored much better on my X2 and on my XP 2400+.
S40 I used without trouble, but others didn't.
S40.03 and S40.04 gave me some trouble with unvalid results because of result differences to the standard albert.
S40.12 is too fresh to have an final opinion. On my X2 it runs definitely faster, but I didn't test it on the XP so far.

Better for ATHLON XP core BARTON is S-40 with SSE. I have done some tests before.
S40.03 and S40.04 have some bugs and s40.12 is the newest but i don`t know if is there also any "zero" bug.

Id say D40 or S40.12, the other versions isn’t a good option in my mind. D40 is faster then S39L and is stable. S40.12 is faster then D40. Hopefully the accuracy problem is fixed in S40.12, but if this worries you go with D40.

Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.

I haven't really noticed any

I haven't really noticed any difference in crunching time between D40 and S40.12 on my AMDXP2600+

but the S40.12 it's way faster on my AMD64 3000+ (some 10 minutes per WU)

Running D40 (3DNow) on my Barton-core XP-Mobile 2600; haven't found anything faster or more stable.

I'm using D40 on my xp2500+

I'm using D40 on my xp2500+ Barton o/c to 2.1GHz. Never any problems. I find that it runs 4x faster than the stock version for the long wu and 9x faster for the short wu. You might shave off a minute or two by using S40.12, have not tried it. For now I prefer to stay with the high accuracy of D40 until Akos gets the Enhanced 3DNow! version working. Should not be too long, read that his sempron cpu and motherboard have arrived.
This AMD fan likes D40 :)

I would like to say that S40.12 is more accurate than D40. ( I would like to hope. )
And I will do the SSE3+3DNow code at first. ( I will implement some new ideas. )

Thanks for the info Akos and the great work. And from what I have just read in the S40.12 thread I think it is worth a try. Gone to do that now ;)

You say that you'll do a SSE3

You say that you'll do a SSE3 and the S40.12 supports "single" SSE ?

But will some version come that support SSE2 ?
(my AMD64 supports SSE2)
