I use E@H on my q6600 cpu, and up until recently, it was running an instance on each of the 4 cores. I was out of town for awhile and when I returned, I saw that my numbers were way down and that only 3 cores were in use. I run Milkyway on my gpu's, and so far, I don't think there has been a conflict. Does anybody have any idea as to what is going on? I tried to manually download more work from Einstein, but I get messages that state that my limit of 24 tasks in is progress.

Did you check your gpu-app? It uses one cpu-core as well, so all together 4 apps should be running, 3 cpu and 1 cpu/gpu app.

It didn't use to be that way.

It didn't use to be that way. Under the BOINC manager tasks window, it would show 4 Einstein's and 2 Milkyway's. The split that you are referring to is if Einstein is set to run on cpu's and gpu's, if I remember correctly.
I did just notice something. My last restart of BOINC manager on 7/13 indicates 7gb of physical memory, when in reality there is 8gb. I checked with another program, CPU-Z, and it indicates 8mb, but I have had one stick come up as "missing" before when it showed only 6 gb. Could I have some bad memory? or a bad memory slot?

If that value is below 128 (32 per core), it indicates that your computer is returning erroneous results, and if you look at your task list, you can see many of those. All I've checked got

The MW GPU app is listed as using 0.05 CPUs. In fact, it uses even less than that so there is no problem running 4 E@H CPU tasks together with a MW GPU task. In fact it is a very good way to use the machine efficiently, provided you can keep it cool :-).
As Gundolf points out, many tasks are being trashed and the ability to download more has been reduced to 7 per day and that has probably already been exhausted for the current day. My first guess it that the machine may be overheating. The stock heatsinks on Q6600 CPUs are extremely easy to block up with fluff and these need to be checked relatively frequently. The quickest way to see if heat is the problem is to remove the side of the case and set up a room fan to blow cool air right at the CPU. If the errors stop then heat is the problem. A close inspection of the heatsink (remove the CPU fan) would be a good idea.
Cheers,
Gary.

This can be checked very easy.
If you have win7 bootmanager installed, you have a memtest as a startoption.
If you have a kubuntu DVD, a memtest is on the disk.
Otherwise google for memtest86, download the image, burn a bootable CD and run the test. It really looks like a mem-failure.
Different downloadlocations also give you the options for a bootable usb-stick. This requires a mainboard-bios, that allows you to boot from usb-devices.
Yes, your'e right.

Well... so far it has been

Well... so far it has been cool, and yes, it took a while to get the different programs to run like I wanted. I hadn't checked since my original post, but just before I logged in here tonite, I noticed that all CPU activity had stopped. There were 3 E@H w/u's to be sent in, so I did a manula update. One failed immediately, something abou the ooutput file being absent. Another line said "07/31/2010 1:29:24 AM Einstein@Home [error] Can't create link file slots/2/einstein_S5GC1_3.02_windows_intelx86__S5GCESSE2.exe"
I do try to keep my 'puter dust free. I have a monster sized fan on the cpu, but I haven't checked it for clogs lately. I had back surgery recently and can't exactly bend over to get down on the floor for an inspection. I'll try to get that done this weekend, no matter how much it hurts!
FWIW, my case has several fans on it and they all seem to be working, atleast what I can tell from sticking my bare foot down there.
Thanks for all the responses guys.

im no expert by any means, but that sounds to me like one of two things, a drive problem, or an antivirus app is preventing boinc from doing its thing.
you can do a drive check by goin in to my computer, right clicking on your C drive, click propertys, then click the "tools" tab, under "error checking" click on "check now" check both box's and click "start".. you may have to reboot, and it will take a long time depending on the size of the drive (several hours)
if its antivirus related it depends on your setup, check its "blocked apps" and see if e@h or boinc is listed, any time e@h updates the app i have to go in and add it to my "allowed" list in avira otherwise i get similare errors.
oh by the way, if you want to run a memory test in windows 7 (same instructions works for windows vista) how to test your ram or memory with windows memory diagnostic tool in windows 7 IMO i think the boot manager option would be best as nothing would be using memory.
aside: i have a dell 530S and the boot manager option actually worked, i was throughly surprised and pleasantly pleased to see the windows repair console was installed. givin past expiriance with OEM's :)
keep in mind, im no pro, and these are just some idea's that come to my mind. :)
